Without oil

1. 159 5. 159
2. 150 6. 140
3. 130 7. 150
4. 149 8. 150

With oil

1. 165 5. 170
2. 161 6. 150
3. 142 7. 170
4. 160 8. 165

The reason why I did the test is because I have been burning oil out thru my exhaust. White smoke with a blue tint to it. So there are the #'s now I need your alls help on what next. 89 LX 302 bored 30 over and lots of extras

With the 130 being almost 30lbs lower than your highest, I personally would start planning for a rebuild. The fact that you added oil and it went up I would think points to the rings. If it had stayed the same I would have looked into valve train.

yes one cylinder is below the others but 130 is not terrible number. Hopefully you can get away with a re bearing and rering with a minor honing but you could be taking this apart and be spending more then you figured. If i was going to go through the trouble of tearing the engine right down i know i would be installing a 331 or 347 stroker kit in it with nicely notched pistons so i could run the heads and cam that would make big power.

So when you say rebuild what all are you including in that.

All depends on what it specs out at.. You may get away with a hone and rering, you may need to bore it out again and buy new pistons and rings. Your machine shop will measure and spec it out for you and suggest what you do or don't need. If it's me a rebuild means at the very least, hot tanked, hone cyclinders, new rings, new rod, main, and cam bearings, freeze plugs, new oil pump and gaskets.

I assume you did this with ALL Plugs out, engine warm and foot held to the floor on the throttle?

I never thought this made a difference until I tried it, and got a difference of 30 pounds testing it how I should have. I assume you did this, and imo I'd drive it till it gets bad, or you have the cash to do what you really want to do with the motor.
