Hertz v Budget

Hope you guys can help a fellow Mustanger from across the pond

I had planned on coming to San Francisco earlier this year and we had pre-booked a Mustang with Hertz for a very good price. However, I had to cancel the trip and we are now coming over in the spring. This time Hertz are not giving me a quote for a Mustang on their website. A Mustang is listed but not available when I highlight it. So I have pre-booked a Mustang Coupe with Budget (same price as Hertz quoted this year).

My first question is why aren't Hertz allowing me to book a Mustang?? I thought they were popular hire cars over there.

And secondly, if I stick with Budget, what are my chances of actually getting a Mustang with them?? If I dont get a Mustang it will take the shine off my holiday

I will be collecting the car from the airport if this is any help

It can be a couple of reason. You actually mentioned one; being popular they might have all been reserved by others already.

Another is that if you are using a discount code, that the discount code has already achieved its goal of total Mustang rentals, and therefore, doesn't need to offer any more.

What are Budget like?? Will they have many Mustangs??

Just book with both--I usually book with two or three and then just go to the one with the shortest line. I bet either Hertz or Budget will have one in SF, but it's always hard for them to guarantee anything. The Hertz in San Jose had tons of them when I was there last month.

It is probably too far in advance to request a specific car. Have you called Hertz to ask for a Mustang?

A side note: in American English a company is an "it" not a "they", so we would say "Hertz has Mustangs" not "Hertz have Mustangs" here in the colonies.

Grammar, like so many other things, didn't survive the voyage from the mother country intact.
