I'm just wondering how car shows are classed where you live. Back in the 90's here in south florida car most shows had classes for everything if not they would make up a class if there were more than 2 for it. Now unless its an all ford show there are only 2 classes, pre 74 and 75-up, I'll share some story's after i see some intrest in this post.

How they look at it is the 75+ is the post muscle car era. Your bigger shows will have 60 trophies. 40 for the classics and 20 for the late models. The problem is i don't think a pro street 77 malabu should be in the same class as a brand new charger. Now i don't enter alot of show because of my work schedule but i will stop by to see my dad if they are close to my route home. My dad has a 65 GTO that is unrestored (but should be) and is the original owner. He also has someone bring out his 04 F150 that is decked out to the hill. His truck always wins cause the judges will pick a couple of latemodel trucks. The last show i went to with him gave out 20 trophies for late models. Of course he won but 9 went out to PT crusiers. If you had classes that would never happen. It seems you have to know someone to win. I had a great time at this show and was fine not winning until....... Some girl with a 01 V6 with a pony decal down the side and a mac cold air won. The car looked like it has been parked infront of a sprinkler for months and probably hasn't been cleaned since new. Someone said something nasty and then pointed to my car and oh and behold i was called for best paint? Give me a break.

Unrestored 65 Goat? Please post some pics!
Yeah different shows have different rules and judges. I usually go to see different ideas. To be honest a 65 has been one of my favorites for a loooong time. But how many restored/minted out 65's can you see without getting bored? An unrestored one would be a breath of fresh air!

I think I have a problem here.

Depends what club is hosting the event, but here's what I can think of:

Fun Ford and NMRA are the same across the country.

The Mustang-specific shows held by the big clubs in the region split the Stangs up between body styles (79-93 or 87-93, 94-98, 99-04, 05+, and the classics have similar breakups but I can't remember exactly how they go). They then split those groups up between stock, mildly modified, and extreme modified. Smaller shows often have stock and modified for various year groups. That might seem like a lot but it's not uncommon for those mild mod and extreme mod classes to get 20 cars. I remember 30 one year in my class alone. Sometimes the classes get 3-5 people, and other times it's 20+. Very tough to know what's going to happen.

Some clubs here seem to just do "whatever" in their shows and just give trophies to whatever they feel deserves them out of whomever shows up. No structure or anything, and usually the results are very skewed.

The import clubs here (and some other non-import specific and non-Mustang clubs) either include "All Fords" or "All Mustang" classes, some even simply have "Domestic" (which is funny since they'll also have 20 classes for Hondas and not even BE an import-specific club aside from the fact no real car guys want to join )

I just live in a small town but around here most of the shows have classes for each decade, and usually mucsle cars. Some have classes for the popular cars like mustangs and comaros. Some have classes for project cars that aren't complete.

In southeastern Illinois the shows are mostly top 25 or top 50, etc. Some still have classes, but usually not enough to really make a great difference. Ther is one all Ford show that actually has it broken down enough to put the right body style and years together. The car club that I am in had 41 classes, untill this year. This year they are doing top 125, with top 100 going to older cars, top 15 going to newer cars and top 10 going to motorcycles.

If you would like to see how this areas shows are classes, etc, go to www.classicpony.com Webmaster keeps car show calendar on there of the surrounding shows, many with scans of the actual flier.

My car club site is whitesquirrelcruisers.com

Going to a show doesn't mean you have to win, but if the classes don't give me a chance, I see no reason to waste the entry fee and gas $. I usually hit about 3-5 shows or cruises a year.

Here is a pic of my little shrine in my garage. These trophies are just from my 93. I have since donated the trophies from previous vehicles to a charity.
