Yeah it will up the compression ratio a tad. You can still run a conservative ammount of PSI or N02 if that is a consern of yours. A notch is a great platform for a toy. It is lighter and stronger than a hatch which is one thing to look out for. One of the biggest perks of a fox vs LS1 is we can make up for the lack of cubes with how much less they weigh. Once you start inching into their weight class it really starts to show... Then again 650hp.... hehe. It really is subjective. Choose a body style you like because you are gonna be driving it. Power comes with whatever extra money you pour into it.

This might be in your price range.

N2O likes compression. You can run nitrous on higher compression engines with the right tune and no issues. Of course a good set of head gaskets and probably studs instead of head bolts would be a good idea. But that would be for nitrous shot over the 150 mark.

i would (and did) Go with a good set of head gaskets and heads studs for extra insurance! I was not smart enough to get a good block initially and will probably pay the consequences this season sometime im sure You say you have approx 4000 to work with? My suggestion would be to try to find something like a mexican block if you want to stay with a 302 based stroker motor.....or do what i SHOULD have done and put yourself together a 351 based motor (stronger blocks, if you want to see for yourself , look at the difference in the size of the main caps on a 302 compared to lets say a 69-74 35 and they will be more street friendly than a high compression/reving smaller 302 based motor.....night and day difference! All the numbers are hearsay on when the factory blocks break though! I think it would be kinda neat for everyone who has broken a factory block to post the power range/times they were running so we can get some what of a stangnet average. I think its a crapshoot personally some go a longways some go boom instantly! Then you get into all the block seasoning stuff such as 100,000 Plus mile blocks are better for buildups.....grouting etc..

I would have to agree with what Daggar said. If an aftermarket block is out of your price range, you can substitute some of that horsepower with gears and a well set up suspension and some Nitrous. Other than that i would suggest some AFR/TFS 165/185 heads with a custom cam, and a Systemax II or RPM II Intake, and remove as much parasitic drag as you can from the engine (i.e. fan, aluminum drive shaft etc.) Add all that and a descent tune and you should make a descent amount of power.

A 351 as a base or even a stroker would probably be a lot easier to get your 650HP unless you are hellbent on a 302 base...

Ok guys the 650 thing is not an issue anymore. I just want to be able to make enough power to beat a head cammed ls1. The car that my buddy has for sale has run a best of 8.7 on street tires at normal air pressure spinning 2nd gear. I think this car is capable of 420rwhp+ on the bottle or with a blower right? If I can get to that kind of rwhp number with the stock block then that will be fine.

I like to say "There's no replacement for displacement". my opinion is a 351w stroker like 393 or 408 or if you feel froggy 427. there's my 2 bits. as humble as it is
