Hi speed fan ?

I have suspected the fan was my heating issue for quite some time now. I'm running a Fluidyne, new waterpump, 50/50 mix, NO underdrive pullies, 180 stat, and water wetter. The car will run 210 on the interstate but once you get in stop and go traffic it will creep up to 230. I think I have confirmed it by installing a PIH kit. The kit comes with an independent fan controller. The low speed fan comes on, but I cannot get the high speed one to come on. Does this mean the fan needs replaced or is it the CCRM? Any help would be appreciated.

You can send pin 17 to ground on the CCRM, that is your high speed fan switch wire. At least then you will know if you fan works. Doesn't mean anything is bad if it doesn't run though........Thats all I have. I always have a spare fan around. I have been through a few over the years. Very common for the high speed to die......

I am a little lost, but think perhaps you run a stand-alone controller to work with the A9L computer. If so, I would apply fused 12 volts to the high speed connector and see what she does.

Yup, didn't read the part bout the PIH kit. I really gotta sleep more.. As JT here said, a fused 12V to the high speed connector will tell you the absolute truth. As always, he is here to clean up my lack of reading skills...

Ford had a recall on our fans. Just tell them you got a notice and you need it checked and they will do it for free.

Thanks for the replies. I consider myself mechanically inclined but when it comes to electronics-I am lacking. Where would I get a fused 12V connector? Do they sell them at Radio Shack? I have wire but I don't have a fuse/holder to wire up. Should I hook up one end of the connector to the battery and then the other to the high speed port on the fan controller? Once again, THX.

I would disconnect the connector at the fan and run a fused wire from the battery to the high speed fan terminal (right on the fan motor).

Alternatively, you could tap into the N.O. terminal on the high-speed relay (if applicable), as that wire should go to the fan motor. We dont know how you have the fan wired though (I dont know what the PIH kit comes with or how you chose to wire it up).

Shane and JR might have better ideas for you, but that is what lil' ol' me would do.

UPDATE: I got a fusable link but have not got a chance to test the hi speed circuit. What's interesting is on the way home from work yesterday the temp got up to 210 and the high-speed came on (it didn't get any hotter either-woo hoo). Also, the low speed fan is on ALL the time. I am running a PIH with an independent fan controller. The fan controller has one dial for each low & high speed setting, however it does not matter where I set the dials as the fan seems to have a mind of it's own. The high speed will not automatically come on with the AC either. Since the high speed fan came on yesterday, I'm thinking the fan is OK but maybe the CCRM isn't. If not, then the fan controller is not functioning properly. What are your thoughts?

Since you have a stand-alone controller and these issues, I might just completely separate the fan wiring from the CCRM (at least for the highspeed). I would continue to test things to figure it out further. I would use a Bosch 75 amp relay, though others might feel differently.
Have you messed with the temp probe? Those can be finicky.

There is no remp probe, the fan controller is wired to the stock CCRM via the SN95 harness.

Whoa, my BAD! I was thinking of what fox guys do to get a fan to work (cant use the ECT on a fox - that I have ever seen anyhow. Using that thermistor would be kind of trick though).
Well I have no idea how the two systems are hybridized, so I will shut up.

I used a completely seperate fan controller from the computer on mine and I have it wired to the high speed fan using a 75 amp relay besides from the fan controller kit my temp never goes beyond 195 even with the ac on I used what these guys did but with my stock fan it works awesome

Danny, you ended up losing me.

I have no idea what you're trying to do (using the ECT with your fox cobra puter to turn on the fan is very likely not going to work, contrary to what people say. It's very hit or miss).

Here's a diagram that might help.

Does the PIH fan controller still use the factory ECT sensor? that could be the culprit.
