the lower the number, the brigther they are, the higher the number the more color in the light but not as bright, example: 6000k is light blue, 8000k is more blue and 12000k is purple but those are for just color, BMW lights are usually like 4300k but they look bluish purple due to the projector in the headlights, look at the ground next to a BMW the ground lights up white not the color that the projector puts out, to answer your question i think anywhere from like 4000k-8000k is legal.

Technically they aren't legal at any temperature because there is no high beam...

You will have a hard time passing inspection without a highbeam function.

maybe you should have gotten a functional bulb temp. 8000k is about worse than the stock unit in terms of lighting.

If I were to install a HID retrofit projector install 4300K would the temp I would run.

Do a search there are a few guys that have made sharp looking HID projector retrofits using BMW/Audi/MB stuff, and the cutoff lines are sharp as a razor.

No doubt HID is far better than Silverstars, they look killer either way, especially from the driver seat.

If you were to do a retrofit, the kits we bought from stangmods.com will NOT work. You will need to splice on a new end to the ballast, or buy a new OEM ballast to fit a d2s bulb. I wish I knew that before I bought this kit .

I think it's something like 1500 hours or something like that but bulbs are only 99.00 bucks and the ones on my tahoe have been in service for 3 years of daily driving.

I say spend little bit more and do it right. These are audi ballasts and projectors with 4100k lightbulbs(HIDplanet) retrofitted into gutted knockoff projector headlights. The bulbs are rated at 3000 hours.


Notice the nice spread? thats how the projectors should work, when you can see beams of scattered light, you could be blinding on coming traffic and also your not getting the best out of the stuff you just bought.

not really. they're super bright, just not as bright as people brag them up to be. im just pointing out that my headlight housings scatter the light everywhere. they're the mustangtuning clearcorners.

plus i love how the blue matches my car perfectly, with my white turn signals and the newly ordered clear fogs on the way it should be incredible.

They are all illegal. HID on a Mustang are illegal period since they never came with them OEM.


The only LEGAL HID retrofit is if a car had an option for them and you used OEM parts. For example, the 93-96 Mark 8 came with halogen headlights, but the 95 and 96 LSC's came with HID's. The only legal retrofit for a '93 Mark 8 would be to use OEM equipment from the 95 and 96 LSC's. Anything else is illegal.

They look cool as hell, but there is no such thing as a legal HID retrofit to a Mustang
