High oil pressure after PI swap

Well, I tried searching for the topic, but it's a little too specific I guess. After having my PI swap and comp 262's installed, I've noticed that my oil pressure is higher than before. On the gauge, it's almost between the "M" and the "A" in "NORMAL". It used to be right in the middle, where it should be. I was going to wait until I changed my oil, and see if it still does it, but it's bugging me. Is the higher oil pressure normal because of the increase in compression or do I have a problem?

TTT = to the top

I have heard that you may experience more blowby due to the higher compression, which would be related to crank case pressure not being relieved... so if this is true, then that would make sense that your oil pressure has increased a bit. But don't quote me on that

Is this a bad thing? Or normal?

well I'm not really qualified to say either way. are you using oil? maybe someone with the swap can chime in

i dont think i would worry about it... id be worried if you had LESS oil pressure but not more...

No it's not using oil. I've checked a few times just to make sure.

I guess you're right. I'm thinking that it's just due to the added compression. The engine is running better than it ever has before and the oil pressure is consistent, so it's probably no big deal. I just always get paranoid after any time I have work done to a car, even when I do the work myself.

Ok those stock guages are not acurate at all.. I would install a quality aftermarket guage and then check it.. You really can not go by the difference in the middle of this guage and slightly right of middle.. when you consider this is not a real presure guage is more like a idiot light that looks like a guage..

quick way to tell if your car has a idiot guage is if the oil presure does not increase with engine speed. a real presure guage will drop off at idle and raise at higher rpm's

The reason why ford uses idiot guages for oil presure is that they think the average customer will panic if they saw the presure drop at idle.

I was actually planning on getting a gauge pod to replace my clock on the dash and putting an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and oil temp gauge in it.

thats what I am doing.. except mine is just oil presure for now and it's going on my a pillar.

Um what year is your car? After 96 the guage is no more than a on off switch activated after 4psi.
The guage is setup to read mid scale once the pressure excedes the pressure required to trip the switch.
The only way to know the real pressure is to install an aftermarket guage.

As other's have said, the oil pressure guage is basically an on/off switch with a guage hooked to it, so 10psi would read the same on the guage as 20psi. Also swapping heads on your car won't change oil pressure readings unless you have a plugged oil passage or two and I can't see that happening.

Is there a gauge replacement that gives actual readings without having to add gages? I'd prefer to just swap out my cluster if there is something avaliable.

I think this is what tom was refering too, although I misunderstood him the at first.
