high temp and AC runoff

I noticed that there is water dripping from my drain for the A/C evaporator on to my passenger side header. my car is also running very hot with the ac on (on the "L"). With the air off Im at the "M". The car runs cool for about 20min. then starts to heat up. Any thoughts?

Have you ever had a car with AC? Not trying to be an ass but the water dripping is normal. I sold a car that was in great shape to a family member. She calls me later that day bitching about a water leak so I go to check it out. Guess what it was, AC drain, she had never had a car that had working AC. So don't think I'm ragging on you.

no offense taken. I am just wondering if this may have to do with why I am almost overheating? Coolant is full and I am stumped. Thermostat maybe but i just replaced it last summer

Yeah man. Condensation is gonna result from the cold air from the freon mixing with the warm outside air. As for your engine overheating when the A/C is on. That's not good. Do you have U/D pullies, what degree therm, when's the last time you flushed and filled the cooling system, and does your fan click on to high speed when you turn the A/C on? (Stock piece of crap fan!) Oops did I say that out loud?

I did have UD pullies. I removed them because I thought they were the problem. I flushed and filled the cooling system last summer. I retarted my timing back to 10* and will see how that works. I will also check to see if the fan goes to high speed when i turn the ac on.

it's a mustang, get used to it. My car runs hotter with the air on and i hate it. It's just how it is and I don't think there is anything you can really do about it. Plus, The stock temp meter is very inaccurate, so you can't completely go by that. Mine raises about two letters also though.

I agree- something is up. Your car should not be getting that hot. To tell you the truth though before your car even got up that high anyhow the coolant would be bubbling and spitting out the overflow bottle I would think. That's what my car did when the stock fan died. Does the A/C get nice and cold like it should when it's on or does it get warm and then cold again and then get warm and eventually stay warm after a little while? Does it throw a CEL? I would think the coolant temp sensor is screwed if the car runs fine with the temp gauge going that high.

No prolly a new coolant temp sensor.

The coolant temp sensor is the ECT sensor.

Have you checked to see if the high speed fan is coming on?

If the needle sits at "m" when the a/c is off, that is still too high. The a/c isn't the problem. Running the a/c will make the car run hotter, nothing you can do about it.

dont forget that the a/c will be shut down by the puter if you get too warm (242 on foxes. i assume you also have some sort of safeguard too).

so can any one confirm that we have a safeguard that shuts down the AC if the engine temp gets too hot? My air blows cold and never shuts off. Could I have a faulty gauge? this problem only started on my way down to FL. I am so stumped. Could it be an air bubble? so many questions. blah.

check your fan...t-stat go colder and if u wanna try first replace the temp sender and see if its going bad and not reading properly.

I checked my fan fuse and its fine. it seems to run normally and makes more air when the ac is turned on. where is my temp sender and what is the exact part I would have to replace?

it takes like 30 min. for the car to start to run real hot.

thoughts? suggestions?

Just to right of the distributer, str8 down into the lower intake manifold. It should be slightly pointed, like a crayon (the part IN the coolant) and should be brassy color. There could be gunk on it and just need cleaning...but that's where it is.
