highway mpg unreal

on my way back from the dealership i decided to reset my computer to see where it was running in mpg, and i was shocked to see the number go so high. i was running with traffic from 65-75 mph and when i was almost at my exit it was reading 44.3 mpg. i dont know how this is possible at all, i am 220 and i had my wife with me as well, she is 130 or so. my car is a 2011 v6 manual trans with 2.73 gears. i took a pic with my phone as proof. believe me, i wouldnt post this if it was a lie. my in town mileage is about 24 as the dash reads

You had just reset everything before you got on the Interstate? If you had just reset it even remotely close, and you were behind someone most of the time, I could see you getting that as an average for a little while. Either way, it's crazy good mpg's, lol.

yeah it was at the end of a 50 mile trip actually, reset on the onramp.

They have an instantaneous mpg rating in there too right? Not just average? I wish I had one of those to play with, cause then you could see how speed changes and being behind cars/trucks could affect your mpgs.

I believe it. Under the right conditions, with the right driving style, big MPG numbers are possible.

First, with 2.73s, you car is geared for fuel economy. The 3.7 Ti-VCT engine having the latest and greatest technology available is in itself a very efficient engine. My guess is you also had a good tailwind that day, and if the traffic was fairly heavy, that can create its own tailwind with all the cars going in the same direction. I'm not sure where you live, but higher elevations would help to.

My personal record over a tank is 43 mpg at 65-70 mph. That was in an Alero (3.4L V6, rated at 29 EPA), so it is possible. That was in western Wyoming (elevation over 7000 feet), and I had a good tailwind most of the way. Under similar high elevation conditions on driving vacations, I've also seen 25 mpg on a V8 Explorer, and 32-34 mpg on an 05 Mustang GT.

Took a 100 mile trip to test and got 28 freeway and back into the city got 19

I live in Colorado at 6000 feet and yes the conditions were just right. Traffic was smooth flowing. I had a 5 speed focus and never got close to that kind of mileage. The instant mpg gauge is just a graph bar type, doesn't give any numbers at all. I'm impressed with the numbers, but let's see what I get after a gear swap

Everyone told me I was a moron for getting a Mustang as a daily driver. I had a 3.8 that was a pig, my sister had a 4.0 that was a boat anchor. HOWEVER. this new 3.7 is AMAZING. i drive in crazy Chicago traffic, and if I stay out of it still get over 30 mpg average. this picture is of my average run to downtown Chicago and back.

Yup, I'm jealous, I thought I was doing alright @ 23.5mpg avg in my 4.0 :/

I accidentally took a wrong exit and ended up in a very bad part of the south side of Chicago. while the 35 mpg average I have been getting is cool, It will get 8 mpg when trying to get the hell out of some place. That was a gallon of gas well spent.
