You seem to be the man to ask. In the wiring for the clockspring there is a black wire in the harness that goes to the key switch. Do you know what it is for and if I need it? Anyone else that knows feel free to chime in.
I was just going to bump your other thread and say that I didnt forget about ya but I havent had the wheel off yet to see what gives.
Many are better than me with electrical stuff but I'll take a stab at this thread.
It's funny - the CC wiring on the '88 and '94 are identical. Ford doesn't like change.
Tom, I'm not sure exactly what wire you're talkin about because I don't recall the color of the chime wire (see below).
There's a black wire that goes to the CC buttons. It works with the Lt Blue/blk wire for the CC function. Those are the only two CC wires - each button has a varying resistive value so the CC amplifier knows which button you pressed by the voltage it receives (kinda the same idea as one-wire power door locks if you've installed a keyless entry system on those).
If it's that black wire (for the CC), it goes to the amplifier and also has it's own grounding point IIRC. If you don't have airbags, CC or a horn, you really don't need it that I can tell.
Now if you are talking about the single wire (it should be shielded IIRC) that goes to the actual ignition lock cylinder (if you look at the lock from the passenger seat, the wire sits adjacent the lock at the 9 o'clock position), that's for the POS chime. I don't believe I have mine even attached anymore (it chimes if the lock isnt quite turned off all the way). It's made of aluminum-foil-type metal so be careful with it if you pull it out of its receptacle (mine is pulled, insulated and tied up IIRC).
I hope one of those two things is what you were after Tom.
And I should have some info here on your CC and horn once I get in there and do some continuity testing.
