i lost control of my 05 gt lastnight and my cars a mess. need a new drivers side door, quarter skin, windsheild and all the small plastic **** that broke. I work at a bodyshop so its no big deal but i want to take advantage of being able to do some custom work. i have a 66 fastback that is shaved chopped an dropped so i have some experience. i want to fill the gas cap dor area and relocated the filler somewhere in the trunk. I know alot of race cars have fuel cells in the trunk and i really want to do this but i drive my car every day and i dont need the smell of gas all the time. Or maybe get a custom gas cap i can resess into the body and still fill the stock location and keep that body line. let me know what you think about the gas fumes in the trunk!! thanx

Why not try relocating the filler to the back, where Ford put the Fuax gas cap. Since you work at a body shop, why not try finding an old Stangs(60's) rear filler cap and tube. A little sheet metal work and you would have a functional rear gas cap.

Well, IMO, no offense, but putting the filler cap and delivery tube in the rear is a risky proposition. If you ever get rearended or God forbid, in another accident where you spin around and hit the rear of your Mustang on the telephone pole, then you have a much higher risk of combustion and injury. I'm not saying it wouldn't be kool as stuff, but think of the risk involved just to get a few good thumbs up. Just my 2 cents.

No offense, but what if a semi smash's through your rear driver side quarter and sends you spinning? It would be the same result, it's not like theres some kind of Hogwarts magic that protects your gas tank with a side fill cap.:rlaugh:

Sorry , just watched Harry Potter.

Sorry to hear about your car:( , but glad you're still here to talk about it:D

Very cool idea, but would that ever pass a state safety inspection? Provided your state has them. VA sure does.

Sometime down the road I will eliminate the faux cap altogether and then place a billet side cap(to me it's overkill when you have both on the car in stock form). I'm just loving the honeycomb tailpanel waaaaay to much right now to get rid of it to carry that out.
