This is a shot of a 2003 black Taurus that we fixed here at the shop when we were slow. I painted it last week, wetsanded it with only 1500, then rubbed it with the wheel. I wish I was this good when I painted my 91!!!

Man, a lot of people have been asking me that. I wish I could help everybody out. I could save them a lot of money and B.S. that body shop guys give them. I would like to have a little shop just for that, but with this economy, I am too afraid of leaving my Dad's shop to start a little something.

I would love to. We could really get some nice flat paint laid down on there. The only thing I hate about painting is when something goes wrong. I would hate if a "fisheye" or a "lifting" reaction happened. Then I would be bashed on stangnet.... No, I am really carefull not to get wax, silicone, grease, oil, or Armoral anywhere near my cars during body/paint time. Plus, with the sealer I use now, it really takes a lot of worrying about "lifting" out of painting, because the sealer seals everything in.

Some of the blues that you like I think are all metallic. I have only painted one car that was metallic. It came out pretty good, but I realized that I have to hold the gun further back and paint the car "drier" See, I got too close, leaving it too "wet", so the paint looked a little "stripey" in the sun. It wasn't too bad, I just criticize myself too much. I have seen brand new metallic cars painted by the factory that looked "blochy" and "stripey" in direct sunlight. I would be much better at it now.

I'd like to keep the car a flatter blue.. Like that BMW blue, or i even think sonic blue is non metallic right? I'm not too sure. Picking a color is hard for me.. All i know is i want a one stage paint so i don't have to worry about clearing it. I have to find a good place to purchase paint from. There has to be a place around me somewhere!

Hmm...I believe Sonic Blue is metallic....so is the BMW blue. I think they make single stage paint with metallic, but my supplier said to stay away from it. He didn't tell me why, but that is what he said. I'd like to find out though.

I'll call me supplier for you right now and find out. They are open till 6.

Be back in a flash!

Okay, I just got off the phone with them.

Sonic blue paint has no metallic....BUUUUT...it has:

Blue Pearl
Violet Pearl
Pink Pearl

Pearl's are similar to metallics, so you must be carefull spraying them. It can still look "stripey" if you spray it too "wet".

Price tag for 1 gallon of Dupont Chromabase: 501.00 LIST!!!! My cost is discounted, but it's still expensive.

AND...I asked him about teh single stage with pearl's/metallics. He said stay away from them if you are a painter like me (don't paint all the time, non-professional) because they are not forgiving. Chromabase is forgiving, and will hide mistakes, "blochiness", or "stripeyness" He said even professional painters choose base/clear pearls over single stage.

I tell ya.....3 coats of clear, with wetsanding and rubbing, the car will be perfect!

I know man...and they mix it there at the shop, so when I get it, it's ready to be thinned, and sprayed. You don't have to worry about mixing all the colors in there, because they do it for you.

I wish you could ship paint too. Our compnay can't ship paint, oil, gas, or air bags. UPS would drop us in a heartbeat.
