i can get a holley 600 cfm single feed for cheap... manual choke.. needs a rebuild..$35.00 dollars..

my questions are: can you convert a single feed into a double pumper? can you convert to electric choke? (i thought it was a 30 dollar conversion) and how cost effective would it be

Hello MustangMike6996,
The project you are thinking of can be done but it does get a bit touchy.
You need a kit to add the back pump and the metering block.

HOLLEY 34-6 CONVERSION KIT 4160 TO 4150 $55.95 BUY ONLINE
sell it for about 55.00. Then you need an electric choke unit that can be installed.

All of these upgrades can be done but require some patience and a steady hand.

My suggestion would be to wait and try to purchase what you want rather than try to build it. I understand the $$$$$ factor as I too am working on a 600. If you get something on e-bay that needs rebuilding, it may have other troubles like a bad power valve, blocked passages etc.

I am sorry to say but I think it would be wise to pass on this purchase and try to save and find other deals......Jim

No, you cannot convert it to a "double pumper". You CAN convert it to a "dual feed" uisng the fuel bowls from a 3310 750. As for converting the choke, I've found it best to just remove all traces of either style chokes. If it's tuned right (with an electronic ignition) it should need no choke. As for the purchase price, that depends on its condition. $35 buys you a parts carb on ebay. Good, "little used" 600's usually run about $100-150. If you still want an electric choke, send me $20 and I'll ship you a box of the SOB's.

The kit you listed does not convert a vacuum secondary Holley to a mechanical sec. (which is what all "double pumper" Holleys are), it simply converts a 4160 to a 4150, the difference which is the secondary metering block in place of the 4160's metering plate. As for a bad power valve, that's easily replaced with a rebuild or a "quick kit"

I paid $20 for my 600 holley (list# 1850), and Ive rebuilt it several times for as many different reasons and over the course of as many years, and have never been terribly satisfied with it. I put an electric choke on it (which I subsequently never wired up) and it starts just fine, even below freezing. It wont stay running on its own until it has run for a minute or two when its that cold, but starts just fine. The conversion youre looking at may help with performance, Im not sure.

I went to my local speed shop and bought a used Holley 600 vacuum secondaries with manual choke off his shelf for $25. I installed a rebuild kit and machined off the the air horn for the choke, removed the ball bearing in the vacuum secondary housing and it ran like a bat out of he!!. The problem is that it pulls too hard in first gear resulting in a lot of tire spin for street use.

I bit the bullet and bought a brand new one at Kragen, tweaked the mixture screws and haven't touched it since.

Ive got a 600 Cfm holley that i bought new several years ago. After the mustang was in an accident and sat for a couple years, i just gt her back in the road. This whole time i thought i was gonna have to rebuild it, but she seems to be running just fine.

I do have a petronix unit and dont have any trouble getting her started in the morning. BTW it was in the 30's this morning.

However i think it might need to be retuned as, it seems to bog down a bit.

But yea, ill spin through all three gears if i slam it froma dead stop.
