Hi Guys,

Ive just been pulling one of my Holley Systemax II Heads apart ready for cleaning and have noticed that all the valves are damaged and burred where the retainers sit, due to very loose retainers!!!

Has anyone come across this before??

The heads came complete from Holley and have only done 5k street miles!!

I cant put the valves back in as I think that it wouldn't be long before one of them drops!!

where are the burrs? Are they on the tip or on the keeper grooves. If on the keeper grooves you must run a file across the grooves to remove the burrs. This will help get them out of the guide.Remove burrs and valve will come right out. If the tip is beat up then you have some valvetrain problems. Minor burs on the keeper groove is normal when High performance springs are used.

There was a burr on every valve where the retainers had been so sloppy, they had scored and beat up around the keeper grooves.

If you put a pair of retainers on the valve as if it was in the head, you can move the valve up and down by nearly 1/4 inch! Sooner or later, the valves will push through the retainers and drop!

The retainers had also started rounding off around the groove!

I need to replace the valves and retainers now, as I dont trust them as they are!

Maybe they had the wrong retainers from the factory???

What valves does everyone use?
