Just something to think about with the pipe size.

I saw the inside of the 3" pvc pipe was the same size as the inside of my 80mm maf.

:OT: Grady, time to update your sig? I have a 80mm maf too. Yours isn't a C&L by any chance, is it? I need a MAF Transfer function for mine (stock injectors) and I can't get a straight answer out of the C&L guys ...

holy crap -- that thing must be a beast! i love that intake ....
I don't know, I haven't fired it up yet but I'm looking forward to it  I like the spyder as well.. both for looks and power potential.

but i'm curious ... why not push the filter out into the fenderwell? i bet the intake air gets really hot, which i imagine causes the computer to pull the timing. .

I started to put the maf and tubing into the fender.. made a plate for the inner fender and everything.. then I got looking at it.. with the 4" tube and the bends I didn't like the placement of the MAF and filter inside the fender.. 4" takes up a lot more realstate than 3" and it would have been a tight fit to angle the 4" pipe to the right, through the fender, and downwards then have the maf and filter on the end.. Plus I didn't think I wanted 3 90 degree bends in it either (although it probably wouldn't have hurt much.) In the end I enlarged the fender opening and I think with the possition of the filter being inside it some, it will suck a lot of inner fender air. I still may build a polished sheild or a polished box to go around the filter or maf. Depends if the fan wash bothers it. I don't think it will if everything mounts as I have planned. I ordered a 4000 cfm Dodge viper fan kit so i'll have to see. I should find out what the intake charge temps are when I get it on the dyno for a tune. I'm also hoping with all the ceramic coating on headers and parts that the under hood temps are keep as low as possible. It's really just a temporary setup until i can get a F1R and 3 core installed..

fwiw, when i had my filter under the hood like that, the intake air would get to 170 degrees after sitting at a traffic light for a minute or two
Just currious what the temps were driving and was your filter placed squarely in the engine bay or partially in the fender?

with normal driving city in september in the washington dc area, the temps would drop to the 120-130 range. gotta love that tweecer r/t! i never went on any trips so i don't know about that side of it.

it was in the engine bay, crammed all the way into the corner (where the stock filter goes).

I took the easy way out and got the AFM power pipe. I also have the fox throttle body.

The maf in the pic is a ProM shorty 80mm

Good luck on getting a flow sheet from them

Waiting on dyno results before tb/maf sig update

I was going to do that and put the MAF inside the fender... with me it seemed a bit tight with the 4" tubing and I didn't like the idea of 3 90 degree bends. But I'm sure it would have been fine as long as you can get it in there.. 3-3.5" would probably be easier. As far as the 4" mandrel bends I just bought them from a local muffler shop that does some custom work. With the 90's you can cut them to what ever angle you need. If you need to order them online here is one spot just make sure you get the short radius. http://shop.airflowonline.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=AFSI&Category_Code=9DSR1

Yeah i did a little more research on this today and 4" doesnt seem as feasible as 3 or 3.5". I'll have to check out that website because i cant find 3.5 inch exhaust pipe. There's a couple of places around here that have pre-bent 4" and 3" 90's and i guess a couple of neoprene's could tie it together. I just dont want metal reducers and stuff in the mix to try and keep it clean. Cant find a damn local powdercoater around here either. I'll check that site out. Later D.

Can you post up some more pics? You had to have removed the smog pump to pull that off. Does it work better? :nice:
Since I live in FL I dont need a smog pump or EGR valve so both of thoes are gone :D Heres the only other pictures I have. I dont know if it works better, but once I find out I'll post up... It does make a lot of noise when sucking in the air.
