Hood Insulation

So I have the stock hood on my 2006 GT, but the hood blanket thing that is on it rubbed my intake manifold cover I had before. I'm looking to go with the FRPP manifold, but I don't want to put it in and have it all messed up from the insulator rubbing it. Is there a reason to leave it on? Somebody told me that it keeps the paint on the hood from getting to hot and flaking off, but that really doesn't seem possible since the firewall and other parts under the hood are painted... Anybody have any insight into this?

In the unfortunate event of an engine bay fire, the insulator's attachment "trees" melt and the insulator drops, effectively snuffing out the fire by starving it of oxygen. Oh, it's an engine sound insulator too. No, not all cars have them. There's a little trivia for ya.......

well the insulation is there to act as a fire retartent and to keep your clear coat from going all blah... thats a technical term

Never heard of anyone having problems with a hood because they took it off, I have a Steeda hood with no liner and no problems even with the supercharger being hotter and closer than a normal intake manifold. I think you would be fine taking yours off.

I feel the same, I had a 98 that was black and had a cervini's hood with no liner and it was always fine, but it was fiberglass, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Plus the stock hood has factory paint, which maybe matters, I dunno. I was hoping there was somebody who had taken it off and knew if it was fine without...
