Hood Insulator

Has anyone ever ordered the hood insulator from Ford? Did it come in a box flat or rolled up? I have to drive 1 hr to pick mine up and didn't know if I could drive my pony or if I would have to take the van to pick it up. I know I can ask when it gets in, but was curious ahead of time.

hood insulators are easy to install drive the pony and install in parking lot just insure it comes with the 9or10 fasteners you just push them into the holes on under side of hood with insulator in between and self fasten you should be able to do this by yourself in approx. 5-10 mins.

So, I could just take the old one out at home and then drive the hour and put the new one in at Ford and drive back. It won't hurt not too have the insulator on will it?

take the old one at the dealership and let them dispose of it. or if your keeping the old one with ya'lls cold temps in illinois won't hurt a bit. alot of people down south here remove the insulator when worn and never replace it with no problems and we have alot hotter temps. but ensure you have new fasteners you can purchase these at any parts store or ensure new insulator comes with new fasteners because old ones are liable to break when removed there not expensive.

why did you purchase a insulator at the dealership they charge usually twice what the product is worth click on link below how much more did you pay than the one in the link alot of times check with people on this site they can save you money

pop your hood and look under it, there installed at the factory the insulator protects the hood paint from high heat from motor and without it after time paint will fade and wear faster than other areas.

The insulator just keeps noise in for the most part...

Well, First I wanted to make sure it was OEM exact. Second, it was only $110 and the one at 50resto was like $100. I figured by the time I pay shipping, I can drive an hr to the dealership and get it. Had them order the fasteners too. I was toying with the idea of keeping the old one and saving the new one for summer shows. I think I probably damaged the original one more than anything. When I cleaned the engine, I sprayed the insulator and when it got wet it hung lower and caused it to tear some. No more water on the new one

the hood insulator is for noise... not for temps... the insulator doesnt stop heat, or dissipate it away from the hood... it just absorbs sound.

I understand that I really don't have to have the insulator, but I want to keep my car stock to a point. Plus, I think it would look better with the hood up while im showing off my Quicklift kit for the hood.

Cop Mustangs didn't have a hood insulator from the factory so running without one is no problem! Take your old one off at home and put the new one on at the dealer. If you don't want to do that, I think the new insulator would fit in the back of a hatch Mustang without the box it comes in.

Hah, I havent run a hood insulator in all my stangs and 4 of them were do-it-yourself'd turbo 302s..

The insulator ended up being $105 and the fasteners were $18.40 (for 16, had to buy 4 bags with 4 in each bag, 2 extra). The insulator was a nice price, but I probably could have got the fasteners cheaper from an auto parts place. 50resto had 14 for 7.95, but you have to add shipping also.

I just drove there and installed it in parking lot, 5-10 minutes, and put the box in their trash bin. Easy to do, but the fasteners were very tight, hard to push in. Won't have to worry about them coming up.

Thanks for the answers to my question everyone. Oh yea, it did come flat and in a box.
