Dude! So I've decided I'm spending the money to buy a new MS eventually, so I gotta save some money as itll be a minute. So, I pivot to the pile of parts I have laying around for the bronco. Working on getting the gauges in the dash to work. Wiring in the tach adapter, 4 wires, simple job. Doesnt work. I just cant win man. Everything is fighting.

Mine runs and still looks like this. Ive had house projects, and then a complete lack of interest lately. I have an MS3, Box R intake, $5k wheels and tires just sitting there waiting. Still need to finish molding the front lip on too. All this to say, you're kicking my ass in the motivation field.

Well, I got the borrowed MS installed and booted up the computer only to realize it doesnt have bluetooth.
I threw away my Serial to USB cable because... why would I ever need that again? Sigh. .
Tomorrow is the day!

You would think on the newer, fancier models it would be a basic feature. But you gotta mod the unit for it to work

Ok so. New megasquirt doesn’t have Bluetooth. Has a serial cable.

Laptop doesn’t have serial port

Ordered serial to USB adapter

After many tense hours, figured out adapter needs drivers installed, there are no drivers compatible with my ancient ass laptop that has the tuning software.

Download drivers on wife’s computer, download tuning software.

Still won’t connect to megasquirt

Battery on Mustang is dead

Loaned out charger, never returned.

I’m about done with cars

After sleeping on it, my theory is that the batt voltage was too low to power on the MS. Located charger, picking it up tomorrow. Try again this weekend.

Got a carburetor in my shopping cart on Summit just in case

Still no progress. I figured out the serial output connector on the MS is an M8 male. So Ive ordered a M8 female to USB cable for $30 and Im buying a used laptop this weekend in a last ditch effort to get this borrowed unit to work. My ancient windows 7 unit has quit working for the most part.

I want to reiterate how FRUSTRATING it is to have a car that starts and runs decent enough to drive but there are a couple neessary tweaks I need to make that prevent me from doing so and I cant do that due to things unrelated to the car. Sigh.

I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I am also not completely inept and this has been the second most frustrating experience of my life. The first was when I swapped the LS coils onto the last car and it took me 3 months to figure out I needed a shielded wire for the crank trigger.

Don't get me started, I will say I like my EFI.
They just need to keep it simple.

Still nothing of any substance. I've ordered a couple cables, the last of which took a month to arrive on the literal slow boat from China. Got the license for Tunerstudio transferred to the wifes laptop. Verified I have the right drivers for the cable.

Nada.

Nothing.

So I am packing up the borrowed MS and sending it to a buddy to check out since he has the ability to bench test. IF its bad, Steve says to send it back to DIYAutotune for RMA service.

Entered the burnt out stage a while ago. Just going through the motions now.

Take a break, step away. My car sat on the back burner for months, and I just now started on it again. The time off helps

My T-Bird sat in my dad's shop for years I got so fed up with it. It has sat again for a couple years as I am just tired of the carb setup. As soon as the shop at my house it built I will get back after it and it will get a Terminator X which means a whole new fuel system as well.

Its a hobby man, not life.
