hey this is my first post, I have a 87 mustang gt 5 speed

Im having probloms with my horn... I got a new steering wheel and momo hub and when I touch the two wires together for teh horn all I get is a tick from under the dash.. I guess its some kind of relay or sumtin??

I tried looking for the horn but can't seeem to find it.... I know I probly sound stupid for asking where the horn is but O well.....

O yeh It blew the fuse so I put in a 30 and it blew that one so I wrapped a peice of wire around the fuse....I probly got sumtin fried now .. but I dunno.

so can someone tell me where the horn is and what they think mite be the problom??

Thanks and Ill try to get some pics soon.. shes not real pretty but when I get my paint job and wheels next spring she will be ...lol

Welcome!

[Note: If Andy, Nick or Tim see this, please move it to Tech, where it best fits].

Are you sure you have the horn connected properly in the steering wheel? Not that it's the case for you, but I dont like the ring that comes with some kits (it could short the horn-trigger to the CC wiring).

The horn is one extreme on the 3 pin connector (it's the outer pin IIRC. Don't quote me on that).

Anyhow, the horns are in the front fender apron IIRC. Get the correct! fuse reinstalled. Disconnect each horn and then push the horn button. If the fuse blows, your issue is not the horns.
If the fuse doesnt blow, reconnect one horn and try the button again. If the fuse remains intact, reconnect the other horn. The fuse should have blown during one of the tests.

Depending upon what you find, go from there. The horn relay is under the center console as I recall. That's what you hear clicking.

Good luck.

Here's a repeat of an earlier post ...

The horn circuit has a button that supplies ground, a relay that uses the button to switch the horns on and off, and two horns. The relay reduces the current that the horn button has to carry. This makes it possible to use a small and simple switch and slip ring on the steering wheel.

The horns typically develop an internal short to ground, which causes the fuses to blow.

The horns are located under the car on the driver's side, forward of the front wheel well. Disconnect BOTH horns, replace the fuse: if the fuse blows immediately, the problem is most likely in the cigar lighter circuit. If not, then press the horn button on the steering wheel: if the fuse blows the problem is in the wiring between the horn relay and the horn. If doesn't blow when you press the horn button, connect ONE of the horns and try again. If it still doesn't blow the fuse, connect the other horn. Chances are that the first horn you re-connect will blow the fuse. Whatever horn blows the fuse at this point has an internal short and is trash. Time for a trip to the junkyard...
