Horn wiring on the steering wheel

Horn and cruise haven't worked since I bought the car. Fuse is good, no penny in the cig lighter. I pulled the horn pad off the wheel and the small black wire had been cut and was just laying there. I touched it to one of the contacts and it blew the fuse  . Is the black wire supposed to be connect under the horn button?

Yes, there are two wires to the horn pad, black and purple, I think. They are small wires, with connectors, and are fragile, and easily damaged if you do not know they are there and pull the pad.

Probably one wire has broken off its connectors. I bought another column and wheel to fix my 89, because one was avail when I needed it.

Reconnect the wires and it should be fixed.

Thanks. The black wire looked like it had been cut. As soon as I touched it to a terminal I heard the relay click and then the fuse blew. There were 3 connections in there I think. Does it matter which connector the black wire goes to?

I am having the identical problem! If you have figured it out I would be forever indebted if you could share that tidbit of info!!! Seems that the black wire was disconnected to prevent blowing the fuse and keep the cruise up but I have to have a horn to pass inspection where I live. Thanks for the help!

Yes both wires should be connected. You need to check the wiring for a short, it could be grounded out somewhere or the horn could posssibly be bad.

Find whats causing it to blow the fuse , fix it, and hook up both of those wires to the pad.

how do you get to the horn do you have to take the d/s fender off
No you shouldn't have to take the fender off. I just jack up the front so i can crawl under it and reach up to it. It also may be easier for you to remove your ds tire and pull out the plastic wheel well thingy to access it, i wouldn't know without looking at your car.

hope that helps!
