This happened this morning about 2 blocks from my house. Not for sure what caused it, but the bus went over the insterstate and fell nose first 35-40 feet to the ground. 4 confirmed dead, 30+ injured. Sad day here

Damn thats one of those "what if" scenarios that never happens. I can only imagine how far everyone went, how many things everybody hit, how many times everyone hit each other. Wonder what happened to the driver. Hope everyone is alright, always sad to see people the same age as you losing their lives unwillingly.

Current school busses are really dangerous. Everything inside a school bus is hard or in some cases sharp. nothing is real forgiving. the seatbelts go across your lap. In non emergency situations the windows are a total pain in the balls to open, nevermind is a crisis, and you cant kick them out. Id be surprised if any of the kids even on the bus would know how to escape in an emergency. 35 to 40 ft is a long way, they had to hit the ground so hard. poor kids. its really sad to go out like that. School bus drivers are typically old timers that have prolly been boozing all day or jus burnouts. I saw something on tv about school bus drivers driving kids around and how often they are drunk. its really disturbing. throughout all of junior high and some of hs i rode the school bus and we never had a clue about any of the drivers who drove us.

And they weren't back when the rest of us were in school? I went to a private school. That means we couldn't even afford new buses. Our buses were 10 years older than we were.

Sad to see tragedies like this, but **** happens. You can't go around bubblewrapping and slapping warning labels on everything trying to cheat death. Death will still prevail. Let's just be glad this is a somewhat rare occurence.

I have a buddy in Huntsville and he heard it happened b/c someone cut the bus off. I don't know if this is what really happened though.

If so, I'd say the driver should have just ran over the person that cut him off. I mean, he is driving a BUS.

I don't know what I would do if one of my kids died like this.

Man, and I thought it was bad around here after a couple bus drivers got busted for DUIs while driving their buses full of kids.

they showed a older celica earlier. was sittin on the interstate totalled. looks like it hit the concrete wall head on. so many different stories are out right now, no one knows what happened. they were saying the kids would race the bus back to school from tech school. last i heard, they were trying to find the driver of the celica......

I think seat belts on a bus are dangerous. For one, kids like to beat the **** out of each other with them, and second if the bus were on fire, panicking kids are going to have trouble unbuckling themselves and escaping.

I fololwed the story last night andthen this morning.... 3 confirmed dead, 1 fighting for their life, 14(I think that is right) maybe 15 still in serious condition, bus driver has broken back. From the pics, it looks like the celica was trying to "buz" the bus and ended up hitting the front bumper(of the bus) right past the front tire(on the car). As for the whole seatbelt deal, with violence in todays schools the news a while ago said that penn. tried to put belts in their busses and the students started using them as weapons. Who is to weigh out the rpos and cons of that one? Yes a truly sad day.

Oh yea and the driver of the car was also a 17 yr.o. going to the same place as the bus. He just wanted to drive there.

Word is a student was trying to race the school bus in his own car OR he just happened to blow a tire... No one knows for sure. He clipped the front tire of the bus and the bus driver swerved hard, jumped the barrier and ended up teetering or dangling from the on ramp 24' off the ground. Then the worst happened.
