I've decided to replace the entire A/C system as I convert to R134. The compressor is a rebuilt piece that was put in by an A/C shop in a small town I was just passing through when the A/C was going out. Not sure of the quality of their work, but the obviously didn't diagnose it correctly as the A/C only lasted a week, if that. Honestly I'm tired of doing small quick fixes that don't work, but not looking forward to spending $800 as she's going in for paint next month.
I'm replacing the radiator tomorrow and figured I'd replace the condensor with a parts store replacement while I was in there as a first step to getting the A/C fixed (don't know that there is anything wrong with it but it's 20 years old now). I may go get the system tested first to see what exactly is wrong with it (probably leaking somewhere).
My question is: should I go with all parts store replacements or spring almost double the cash for the Hose Wizard kit? What are the pro/cons of both? Does the Hoze wizard come with a bigger condesor, more efficient compressor designed for R134?
