I have been chasing down a problem in my 94 for a while now. It has been hard starting and idles poorly. You have to put the pedal to the floor to start it, unless it is completely cold. When it does start, it wont idle on its own for a while and smells very rich.

I decided to pull the MAF sensor and clean it. WHile it was off i noticed the terminal blades on the connector were very corroded so i cleaned them along with the sensor resistors. I put it back together and it ran noticably much better and idled good. Then it just started acting up again. unless i didnt get all of the corrosion (which i think i did a good job) it might be something else. I didnt try any codes yet (Killer- can i borrow that code reader?).

FWIW, i recently had a bad ground wire(s) that i replaced. Could running it wiht bad grounds have fried my computer?

ANy ideas are welcome.

Matt, I'd also ohm-out the IAT and ECT sensors. If either (namely the ECT) are out of calibration, it can lead to the need to floor the gas pedal (to kill the injectors) to get it to start. But when the motor is cold, it needs the extra fuel and will actually start.

Good luck.
