Hot starting problems... FACTORY headers!

I've noticed for a little while that my car doesn't like to start AS good when it's hot. It cranks a lot slower than it does when it's cold. Then today, I came home from work, came in the house and did a few things, went back out and it wouldn't start, and still won't. I checked the voltage at the battery and it was 12.6. I hear that heat soak on the starter can cause this, but i have the factory headers but an offroad h-pipe. I cleaned up the battery posts and it still won't start. What else could it be??

As of right now, it cranks a couple times really slow, then nothing. Then if it sits for a couple seconds and i try to crank it, it does the same thing. HELP ASAP!

Ill tell ya what you need to know for your 3G alt. lol....j/k.

i had this problem before too. It turns out that something was slowly dripping just a tad bit of oil onto my starter. It made it very hot and wouldnt start at times. I literally had to sit and wait 20 minutes for it to cool down. Try getting a $20 starter heat sheild for it.

Sounds like your started is dying....mine did this for 6 months...then finally go to a point where it wouldnt crank at all.

UPDATE- I went outside again, tried starting it and it wouldn't go. So then i boosted it with our truck (because the way it cranked sounded to me like a drained battery)... once I boosted it, it started with no trouble at all. So I took it to partsource to get the charging system checked and they say my battery is screwed. Does this make sense? It started fine when i went to work, fine when i left work.. but then i shut it off for 5 mins and tried starting it and my battery caused this??? Even tho the voltmeter said there was 12.6 volts at the battery???

BTW- the starter was freshly rebuilt less than a year ago, just before I bought it and i still have the receipt.

Same thing was happening with my starter a couple of months back. I bought a pretty good replacement (performance parts i think or something like that) at Discount/advance auto parts. Took 40 mins to install and it turns over SOOOOOOOOOOO much better now.

I just noticed you already did a 3g upgrade. Mine isn't, maybe something happened with your 3G wiring job?

Nope.. the alternator wiring is fine. The alternator is putting out the right volts (tested it myself, and had it tested)... the battery is pooched (according to the test)

Something similar happend to my jeep. The battery was fine and would stoart the car but as soon as I put the car in drive it would die or shudder, etc. Found out it was a bad cell in the battery. Sometimes batteries can be weird but if they said its bad it probably is.

cables

Battery cables tend to get high resistent over the years. Try testing them with an Ohm meter or just replace them all together. Especially the big positive going to the starter.

Sounds pretty common -- I'd check the cables, etc. since you're right there. Make sure they're all in good working order as well if you haven't already.
