How are you guys doing on oil consumption?

So do you really expect air coming out of the CRANKCASE, where oil circulates through to not contain any oil??

And yes, if it were a quart between changes, sure, I'd be more concerned. You said "no other car should burn/lose oil unless there's a problem" .. I took that to mean you believe having to replace any oil indicates a problem. Thanks for clarifying that, however.

Just making sure, you guys use the Motorcraft FL-1A oil filter on your 99-04 GT's, right?
I use Wix and Mobile 1. this past change however, i had to use the motorcraft b/c, like an idiot, i forgot my mobile 1 filter at home. good thing there was a motorcraft laying around the shop. no idea how it came to be laying in an Acura service dept though:shrug:

Well, just realized i got the wrong filter, needed the FL-820S. Oh well, BTW my dad is talkin his crazy talk and saying that when you switch from regualr oil to synthetic, you have "flush" the engine by running synthetic through first and then filling it back up again.
Please say it isn't so just so i can show him this :nice:

That's the 5.0 and 3.8L filter.

The 4.6L takes the FL-820S

The 5.0 uses low friction piston rings in the engine from the factory. As a result, ford has stated that burning 1 quart of oil every 3000 miles is completely normal and accepted for the 5.0 motor. That's the rate of consumption that i see on my 5.0. They did this to wring some extra HP out of the engine.

Unsure if the 4.6L has the same deal, but my GT barely uses any oil between changes. It make take some, but not enough that i notice. The 6 quart pan i use is pretty much filled when i do changes

Pretty sure the two oils can be combined. No need to flush. I think it might even say that right on the bottle whether or not it can be used with other oils

I switched to synthetics the day or so after I had the car at 92k miles. Didnt flush or redrain oil.

And I rechecked today and there is more oil than the last time I checked. Im pretty sure the shi**y stock dipstick gave me a bad reading the first time. Its JUST below the "full" line as of today, and I think that just below part is the oil that filled the oil filter.

But we'll see how it does the rest of the miles before the next change, it was halfway between full and add when I bought it, so I dont know.

nope, no need to flush, but i just made sure to let the pan gravity drain for twice as long when i switched over at 40k miles

Gotcha. Maybe i should go a step further and use the jack to lift the passenger side higher up than the drivers side to let more of the regular oil drain out

I know it's a little off topic...but is any one elses dipstick TWISTED? I have never seen a dipstick like the one in my 2000 GT.

Figured the dipstick wasn't stock...
mine is, i f***ing hate it. it always gets snagged going back in

Well, changed the oil and put in Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. I let it drain regularly and then raised the passenger side higher....A TON of oil came out when i did that, so i suggest everyone do it. It only took 5 quarts exactly and the car is a tiny bit over the halfway mark. Is that good to go or should i add a bit more since some say 6qts?

the car should be filled up to the top fill hole on the dipstick. mine takes exactly 5 1/2 quarts. so should yours

Meh looks good with 5. I'll leave it that way
the oil level should reach the top fill hole on the dipstick. less than that is not enough. only way 5 qts would fill it up is if you didnt change the filter:shrug:

why are those oil collector things so expensive? Looks like a piece of plastic/glass and two plastic fittings. Enlighten me.
b/c its the new craze. prices will drop when its played out

That is what I figured.

Regarding the oil, I recently switched to back to synthetic and had just done a regular oil change, so I did not replace my filter. It still took me 5 1/2 quarts to fill it up. I thought the filter would have held more but obviously not? Our cars are weird with the oil level ... or it could just be our dipsticks
