On my 86 gt i have 245/50/16 on the rear and they dont rub, but they are worn out now and i have to put new ones on soon and i cant figure out what size to go with. If it helps i have the stock pony wheels on the car.

When i look at my rear shocks or struts whatever they are there are rub marks on it, so i'm guessing that the guy who had previously owned the car before me had wider tires on it..

I'm not sure if the rear studs are long on mustangs and would it be alright if i put wheel spacers on.

Thanks for all the help.

245/50/16 is as wide as i would go. to tell u the truth with the 16X7 ponies u will get better handleing and ride with 225/50's or 225/55(stock size)

I really prefer the 225/50 ...gives you a good comfort still, fills the wheels nicely, and gives you the same width and diameter for more accurate speedo readings as well as better tread wear.

my car does the same exact thing, all of first gear and pretty much all of second as well, so maybe i will try the 225's then and see if they are any better

same brand of tires? i had 225's and switched to 245's and i could hook with my HCI, 3.73 mustang. if you switched brands its not a real fair comparisom

really 245's dont put much more rubber to the blacktop as the 225's on stock ponys. i know im not going any wider until new wheels.

the 245's were Futura GTX II (400 A A)
the 225's are Mastercraft avenger HP (380 A A)

Tire Rack has a good deal right now.

I just bought 2 Kuhmo Excsta MX 275/40/YR17 for out back and 2 245/40/YR17 for up front. $519 only. Read the specs on this tire. It's rated #2 behind the Advans, which I just can't justify spend the money on. PLus you get a $40 rebate on 4. Chack them out, good deal.

Oh yeah, 240 treadware I think with AAA Traction
