How big is the gas tank really?

Ok everything that I have read says that our gas tank is 15.4 gallons. But when I filled up my tank it was 13.2 from empty. Am I missing something here?

When your gas gauge reads "empty" its doesn't exactly mean empty. Gas gauges are about as accurate as temp gauges, which means not at all.

I wish this thing had a gas light, so I know when its time to fill up, lol.

Its easiest just to go by miles. Thats usually what I do. I havent driven my car much this year so I dont remember how many I would go on a tank, but just find out what you typically get then fill up around there.

Agreed. Even if you ran it out of gas and coasted into the gas station, I doubt you'd get the rated capacity in there. The tanks are not made to be completely filled anyhow (for reasons of expansion, etc).

You really dont want to let it get below about a third of a tank anyhow, so it's kinda moot.

yep any thing below 1/4 is bad for the fuel pump...

just gonna mention the fuel pump thing the gas keeps it cools and you keep pushing every bit of gas you got till its empty your gonna be replacing a lot of fuel pumps. when it says e its not really empty but you need to fill up no need to let it get any lower for any reason.

i ran out of gas in the gas station yesterday and pushed it to the pump. 41 dollars later i had 12.3 gallons of gas. I told him to try to get a little more in there and he tried but the pump kept shutting off becasue it was full. so i am pretty sure that the 15 gallon tank is a myth

oh yeah forgot to tell you, i live in jersey and by law i am not allowed to pump my own gas, but i am sure if i was allowed i would of been able to squeak a lil more in there. the kid didn't look to bright, not that you have to be though to pump gas

against the law to pump your own gas....lol...never heard of such, so every service station is full service meaning they pump your gas for you?

When I was in NJ (just a matter of months ago) I pumped my own fuel. It was diesel ..... but is that really a law?

Stuff like that does exist. It used to be like that in Oregon too (not sure if it still is). I used to forget and go to pump my own gas and have like 10 attendants run at me like I was a gunman. They later went to an abbreviated service and might have done away with it.

Otherwise, I'd remember that there's a difference in the capacity of the tank and how much gas you can put in the tank. I'd also note fuel density deltas.

yes in the state of NJ every gas station must have an employee pump the gas. i think it one of the very few states if not the only one that still has that law. in a way it nice not to have to get out and go to the window and ask let me get 20 on pump 3 then stand there to pump gas. but go on a sunday and have one guy try to run 4 pumps can get annoying. so you win some and lose some at the same time.

i bet gas is a lot more there being full service they gotta include their hourly rate in to make a profit

i just filled up with 13.2 gallons... and it would have held more but i prepayed. it was lower than i usually let it get, but ive also put 14.2 gallons in once when i was driving and could find no stations on the way. never ran it out of gas though, im sure it wasnt too good for my car though.

man, i think i wouldn't even know how to pump gas if i had to. i never even thought about it. gas isn't that expensive here. like 2dollars for reg, and 2 and a half for plus. i am pretty sure that NJ is still the only state that does this.

Nope, Oregon still has people pumping gas. No jump in price of gas just weird to those of us not used to having someone do the work for you.
