How can a fail safe t-stat fail in the closed position!! What luck.

Finally got my car going and my motorad "failsafe" Locked closed. It was a nightmare. Me wife and the kid stuck for 2 hours on the side of the road with the very same problem I paid extra to avoid.

I have put the 180` stat in boiling water and its confirmed that it never budged. Only about 1200 miles or less on the stupid thing too. The last stretch to get the car off the road did a number on it. It was so hot it locked up 300 yards from my dads driveway . I let it cool for a few hours and removed the stat. Fired it up and of course it does not run well with no stat but it got us home (45 minute drive).

I worry about the long term effects that overheating that bad could have caused and do I have a leg to stand on as far as Murray or motorad atleast footing the bill to get it looked over? I understand that I could have got a tow but I can not afford that and this product is a fraud for not doing what it states.

At any rate I feel like its a good idea to get this story out here so people wont make the same mistake I did. This product is junk. Even if u look up the motorad website they boast about how safe it is for your motor. Wasn't very safe for mine.

Sorry to hear that, good luck getting the company to do anything, they will most likely make up a reason that it is your fault. FWIW, ive been running the same 180 degree ford motorsport thermostat for years with no problem. The guaranteed thermostat reminds me of that speech from Tommy Boy

Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of ****. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

Ahh...the Chicken Wing sale. "Where're burning alive!", "Do you validate?" Funny part about "Tommy Boy" was I did that for living for 15 years. When we hired a new employee they would make them watch the movie.

I guess I missed it but what was the deal in purchasing that stat anyway? Sure sounds like an over hyped product to me. If you pay any more than $5 for a 180 stat you've got the "Dump in a box" sale.

Was the car knocking real hard? IF not, I'd suggest doing a pressure test on the cooling system just to make sure your head gaskets are good. Otherwise if it isn't driving differently I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've overheated my old car several times (once to the point of shutdown) and they all ran just fine afterwards. Only exception being that I had a coolant leak once due to an old head gasket, but that was when I decided to upgrade and fix the problem

I got my Dodge up to 250 once coming back from the track one night (stupid construction on the highway) and it died before I could get it shut down. That was a couple years ago and it still runs great. Check for leaks and funny noises. If you can't find any, you might be OK.

I had a problem with after market gauges not reading rite said it was running at 130. So before I found out it was the gauge I put a new stat in. U know the ol turd in a box trick the parts guys that dont know sht from a car tell u how better off you would be if u just buy this. I fell for it.

It was knocking very little, but the valves where taking the biggest beating. I drove it today also and it still seems fine other then not getting up to temp with no stat in it. Tried to get a new one today. Only parts stores I had time to go to had the same junk that got me here. Guess ill get one from the dealer. I will do a pressure test just to be sure anyways. Thanks for the input guys.
