How can I keep injectors fresh?

My engine has 30#ers on it, because the previous owner of the engine was going to stroke it and heavily mod it, but I am just trying to get it running for the time being in my '65. So, I am going to put the stock injectors back in it. My question is, is there a certain way to keep injectors "fresh" so they don't dry out? Or do injectors really have anything to "dry out" in them?

Also, the stock injectors I am putting back in have a lot of miles and have been sitting for 2 years. If I clean them, do you think they will work well?

Thanks.

SD, i bet Jrichker has some answers for you - he has some neat links to fuel injector sites.

i would clean them as best i could by hand (old fuel will varnish) and perhaps vacuum seal them.

good luck.

just get the old fuel out of them. the fuel will eventually dry leaving a residue that may clog the injectors. Then, seal them up in a bag so dust and dirt can't get in and you should be fine.

hmmm, those sentiments sound familiar. :)

I'd lay them in the plastic tray in the produce chiller of your refrigerator - then just mist 'em with a little water every day to keep them from wilting. Works to keep lettuce fresh. :)

As others said - just do your best to get the fuel out of them, then store them in a breathable container - small cardboard box would be ideal. Think about it - that's how they sit on the shelves at hundreds of parts places across the country. If they're gonna sit through season changes in an unheated garage I wouldn't seal them in plastic. You can get condensation inside the bag which can really muck things up with corrosion.

get new 24 lbs. they clog up with dirt after use and sitting. Don't forget u have to change the MAF meter also

Don't you just love how everyone on here throws money under hoods? injectors and MAF? PEANUTS!

I bought new 24# for my cobra since the mileage is so high, thats my vote.

Thanks for the replies.

I am going to see if I can clean up the stockers good enough to make it run well first. If so, I will clean the 30s and store them in a cardboard box or something. If they don't clean up well enough for use, I will probably throw the 30s back on it for the time being.

You have to change MAF sensors with different rate injectors, C & L will send just the electronic and sampling tube if you get in contact with them

P.S. Cobras have 24 lb injectors stock.....
