How can you tell the inner tie rod end is gone?

98 Cobra....

I know the outter is gone because I can twist it back and forth in my hand with ease....and I've had the annoying squeek when turning.

How can I tell if the inner is gone? Do you just have to peel the boot back and look at it?

The twisting is normal if it moves up and down it is shot.

Thats probably where the squeek is coming from it may be frozen up.
