I put my car back together from the blown head gasket and it was running fine and I drove all around today w/o getting on it just normal driving b/c of the rain. I took it out a little while ago and since it's dry boosted the motor to about 10 psi and man did it feel good to get down on it again. I heard slight detonation on the next pull and then my car starts to overheat. It idles great and sounds good but when I looked at the dipstick it is slightly milky again so I pull the plug and yep anti-freeze and oil! :nonono: WTF?!
I put them on and torqued them in the order w/85 lbs and ARP bolts.
Could it be the Fel Pro gaskets that I got? I bought the gasket kit and it came with the Fel Pro 85's not the 9333's. What did I do wrong here? I am going to tear it down again tonight and I don't want to make the same mistake. Not enough sealer on the bottom bolts? Help :bang:
I should have used Cometics gaskets

sorry to hear that :( It might be your gasket. I just replaced one, torque the bolts down to 70ftlbs bottom, 75ftlbs top and when I pulled out my plugs to do my turbos, then looked fine. I dont think blowby could cause that right? Trick Flow recomends the Fel-Pro 1011-2 gaskets for their heads on the site... I believe thats what I went with, or it was the 1011-1... not sure

Thats a drag.... :( Sorry to hear that...All that freakin work....I see all these post on boost...and it honestly makes me wonder if its worth it.....Did you verify the heads were flat before re-assy??? Did you bring it to temp and then re-torque em???
Hang in there... :bang:

The ones that came in the kit were for stock application and no power adders. I don't know why I used them! :bang:
On the brighter side, after just doing the job it will go much faster this time b/c I learned so much here on the boards and I have less stuff to pull off.

What gaskets for 12 PSI and stock E7's is all I want to know so I can order some asap. Thanks! :D

In the FRPP catalog they list M-6051-B51 (46.95) Pg 56 in the 2004 book, as the head gasket for boosted applications in a 5.0..
I get my stuff o/nite from FRPP so I run mostly their stuff....

Its not really an issue with irons...You had em milled, they should have been ok then..Did you RTV lightly around the water ports on the heads??? i usually smear a light coat around those big end ports to...
I know most alum stuff, its suggested....you have more thermal expansion from the cast block to the alum head...If and when i do alums, I will do that step, most time the valves need re-doing anyway,,its the perfect time to do it.......I believe AFR recommends it on the instructions...

I was and now am again having the same feeling you have to want to drive your beast again! This is the first time I pulled my car apart and I was just appreciating how well everything went back together and here I am ready to break her down one more time. I'm glad I learned to do this myself or I would be going broke here! Thanks to all my fellow StangNet'rs
:nice:

JR, I hear nothing but great things about ROL head gaskets. That's what would be on my car if I ever ran a SC. I know Ed C. has them, but I don't know where else to get them from. I do hear good things about cometic too though, but ROL would still be my choice.

I forgot to ask, what is your compression now since the heads were milled??? That could very well be part of the problem. I know the ROL gaskets are available in a "thick" style gasket which could help you if this is in fact part of the problem.

been there done that man!! Two HG's in one week, and one huge towing bill from a dyno lol! I got out of the boosted (turbo) game as quickly as i got into it.

There are so many possibilities. First thing to do, is check the plugs for color/detonation. Then examine the gaskets. Same spots as before? Ring broken, or pushed out or what? Once you figure out those things, then u can begin to narrow it down a bit.

Good luck, keep us posted.
