How do I know what style fuel injectors to buy?

Building up my Blown ’96 4.6L Cougar and am wondering what brand/style injector to get.

Are they all the same, or would they differ as far as fit and style. Looking at going somewhere between the 36-42lb region and so far have found 36, 38, 39 and 42lb all in either high impedance, low impedance, new style “oval” connectors, either from Bosch, Ford, Accel, or Holley.

And these are just the Ford injectors. I guess a better question is what type should I not look into? Can I use non Ford injectors? Can I use non Modular injectors? What's the deal?

There are only a few styles of injector out there. It's more about the style of injector, than the brand. The 5.0's and at least through the 2000 4.6's (sorry, mine is a 2000 so I haven't looked at anything newer) are all the same.

Take a look at this modularfordpowerhouse.com. T&J has injectors on their website that will work, unless there is some difference between the Cougar 4.6 and Mustang 4.6 that I'm not aware of (don't think so, but we are talking about Ford).
