How did Hypertech get so good?!
Superchip may have the advantage on the transmission line pressure adjustments by actually having more adjustments, but comparing Superchip's preset program to Hypertech's preset program it actually seems pretty close - I prefer Hypertech's (preset) now. And Hypertech's engine tuning even seems more manly than Superchip's. I've used Superchip since the car was new and I'm actually surprised that I could feel a difference at WOT, but Hypertech just seems to pull a lot stronger. And even more glad that I don't have a (Hypertech) "ping"!

Update...

Hypertech's fan setting is at 180 or "stock" for a good reason - I tried to "sneak" a 160 thermostat in with the program and I got a "cold" P0125 service code this morning. Guess I'll install a 180 thermostat later today...

:rlaugh:

This is good to know as we just purchased an auto GT for my wife. I was wondering which to use to calibrate the shift firmness. I have talked to several people who werent happy with the superchips modules and 1 guy with a 2001 Trans Am auto with the Hypertech unit and he loved it. Which types of adjustments does it let you make to the auto? Line pressure, etc.

Superchip has more line pressure adjustments - both increase shift points about the same. Superchip (Overall) probably has better/more transmission adjustments, but I still think Hypertech's engine tuning is better. No "Dyno" info, but a few people have been in my car with both the Superchip and Hypertech "tuning" and they all have noticed that the Hypertech pulls a lot stronger at WOT.

well, they should be different. When I was looking at a tuner for my F150, I was told by superchips that the hypertech tuning was only for WOT, and did not really add any power otherwise. The superchips tuning will give you a relatively constant increase throughout the powerband.

That's what the Superchip "sales person" told me too, but when I would "quote" where a Hypertech and even a Jet "tech person" both told me that the Superchip "sales person" was full of beans - where both Hypertech and Jet told me that they absolutely tune for the entire throttle range...the Superchip "sales person" would continue to say WOT only. When I asked *if* Hypertech tuned for WOT only, then how on earth did my F150 "ping" at a steady 1/4 granny throttle...the usual answer I got was just a bunch of flip-flopping excuses from the Superchips "sales person".

And of course, I feel more low end (part throttle) power with my Hypertech tuning, and at WOT. :nice:

The Hypertech program requires 93 octane. Superchips only requires 91. The higher octane requirement of Hypertech indicates that it probably has more aggressive timing and therefore gives you more power.

i have been thinking about gettnig a programer for my 97 but have a few questions can you manually change each setting like for eg. i already have a t/a so i would like to leave the timing alone but still change everything else. Also i like the braking effect from the auto downshifting when coming to a stop and is this all programmable for both. And can you adjust the torque converter locking settings? Thanks

With the 160 thermostat I didn't have a "ping", but I set off a P0125 "cold" code so I went with the 180 thermostat and now I get a very slight "ping" stutter at WOT. Probably try a squirt of Octane Boost from time to time, or I might start off with about a half bottle of that "Wetter Water" (???) stuff - just don't want to go overboard and start tripping service codes again.
