How do you break in a Tremec 500?

I searched the threads and found only info on breaking in clutches.

First of all do you have to break in a tranny? It's my first new tranny.

When a new car is brought, do folks concentrate on breaking in the tranny, brakes, clutch, motor etc?

I read info on breaking in the clutch and after reading it, I'm almost scared NOT to break in the new clutch.

Are cars broken in before you buy them? I've seen people drive cars REALLY hard during a test drive or shortly after buying one. In fact, I remember seeing some cars with paper tags at the dragstrip. A 2004 Cobra to be exact. It was one of the first ones I saw at the time so I know it was new.

Thanks

the tko 500 needs a 500 mile break in period just like the new clutch you put in more than likely. im waitin to install my new tko 500 next week sometime. just drive it really easily, shift nice and smooth and than after 500 miles change the fluid and you should be all set

Do the first 500 miles easy, and shift up and down easy. First gear downshift may be stiff, so take it easy. Break it in right and you'll have a transmission that shifts quick and easy and can't be broken by anything but outrageous abuse like full throttle shifts with no clutch.

I broke my TKO in 1/4 at a time. I dought it has 500 miles on it in 2 years of racing! Its fine and has no problems.

Does the TKO 500 come stock with a 10 spline input shaft?

lol! :rlaugh: I don't want to take chances with the clutch. I heard it could become "glazed" if you get on it to hard too soon.

You can order the TKO 10 spline or 26 spline.

i had it bad, had to drive like a blind grandma for about 1 month while I broke in my tko500, new stage 3 spec clutch and my newly built sc'd 347 all at the same time. Like stated above go easy at first and get a little harder as time goes on.

Drive it like ya STOLE IT!!!!!!! Otherwise when you do get on it it won't be broken in for the abuse! At least thats the way I look at it :)

Notice his sig says C4 Auto... Does he have any first hand experience with a Tremec 3550, TKO or variants thereof?

I hate to disapoint I may not have been on this board as long as many others but I have been in the mustang game for many years and yes one of my previous mustangs I used the tremec. The description in my sig is for my current project which is not quite complete....Yes it does have a C4 in it, Just wanted to try something different. Once its done I'll have pics up asap :)
So no worries I'm not just blowing smoke up anyones a$$, Everyone has things that they have found worked for them if its the correct procedure? Well It might be or it might not be, its just worked for me :)

Good Luck on the break-in!
