How do you drain gas out of the tank???

My car has been sitting for 3 months now and it looks like it will be sitting for another 2 or so while I finish buying the parts needed for the motor.

I don't want the gas to go bad then start up the new motor with it so how can I drain the gas out of the tank? Is it pretty easy?

I would get a small enough diameter rubber hose.....along with one of those cheap kerosene filler pumps and use it......worked well for me on a truck that sat for years..........then put a gallon or two of fresh gas and do it again to get out some of the deposits..........

Good stuff from Will as usual.

Alternatively, if it runs, you could put some fuel stabilizer in it. Otherwise, 5 months isnt a hugely long time for gas to sit in a tank IMHO.

I had gas in my tank for TWO YEARS. I put some gas stabilizer in it about an hour before I started the car up and it ran perfectly.

I use Seafoam to stabilize the gas, that's one of it's features on the can. Works great.

I just posted a "cheap" and easy way to drain the gas........as you say, I dont have issues when mine sits for the winter........I try and start it every so often but I must admit, that does not always happen....
He should be GTG w/ the stabilizer and some HO fuel.

I tried using the method of putting rubber tubing into the tank and sucking it out, but I couldn't get the tube in far enough. It felt like there is some antitheft thing in the tank that won't let you get anything in there to suck it up. I ended up disconnecting the lines and priming the fuel pump until no more gas comes out.

I agree with Hissin...5 months is fine....

Mine sat for a yr and I wanted to drain the tank..Undid the line up on the intake fuel rail, stuff the line into a container and hit the key...works the balls...

I would get a fitting and line and put it on the Schrader valve on the fuel rail, and then jump the wires on the fuel pump relay in the trunk and drain it out.

So what should one do if they let half a tank sit for 3+ years? My plan has been to syphon what I can, then drop the tank and clean it out somehow, somewhere. Is there something that could/should be done with the fuel lines to make sure they're ok? I assume they're dry by now, but you never know.
