How do you guys do it!

Iv'e been alwasy wondering how some of you guys running long tubes and o/r xpipes get away with emmisions and such. I live in New Jersey and there d***s about emmisions. and around me they'll even have check points now and then where they might even pull you out of the crowd and test your emmisions. And im dieing to complete my exhuast and get headers and x pipe.
but i dont want to have to worry about EPA or state fines. any Jersey guys on here geting away with catless exhuast and long tubes??? and how do you do it????????? NEW JERSEY

I wouldnt be complaining too much..California is MUCH worse..they probably pay them off...

i run shorty headers and a bassani x with cats, i've passed inspection for 7 yrs like that. No reason to not run a high flow cat system! a couple of hp for tons of fines is worth it to me.

if you see in my sig I have SLP LTs and an SLP O/R X-pipe. I have no cats at all. I also live in Kentucky where we have absolutely no emission tests lol. But since you do have them you could consider SLP's products. Their O/R x-pipe comes with race pipes in place of the cats. so they can be unclamped and you can easily buy cats and slide them in

I live in pa and I just finished my lts with no cats. When I had my z28 I was running it through a y pipe and 1 cat and it passed. You can get an uncatted x pipe or h pipe and either get one thats catted to swap in for emissions or get your stock one cut and fabricated to swap back in, but then those check points are a problem.

I run O/R in CT and have had no problems, O/R is much louder and better sounding, I've heard that they have checkpoints and stops in CT but, they don't really bother mustangs just import ricers, I would say go with the mac O/R prochamber, the prochamber looks like a cat, or just risk it and go O/R X pipe

i had o/r bassani x, i switched it for slp catted x. too much stress worrying about it. plus i got pulled over a couple of times for loud exhaust. they didnt check anything, just bitched. pita. there wasnt much of a difference in power, if any. longtubes though i would like to do, but will go with jba shortys so i dont have to worry about it. good luck

*** I was raised in NY and you can't enjoy anything over there. I now reside in AZ, and in the COunty I live there is no emmisions. I am running straight pipes on a 2000 GT. I get ntothing but compliments on the sound. I really runs great. My suggestion - get out of the snow. Like NY, NJ, one of the greatest places to be FROM! ***

Florida eliminated their emission program because they said it was a waste of tax payers money. They said most cars are 3 to 5 years old and the emmisions are fine. It's been about 4 years now that it's been dissolved... YES!!!

I am in the same position right now. I am having my motor replaced and while it's out, I am wondering if I should put long tubes and either a catted H, or non-catted H pipe.. There was just a check point up the road about 3 weeks ago, but I am not sure if they would have pulled me over. If you have a good sticker and both license plates on, I think they'd waive you through. But there is always that risk of fines! I am not sure if it's worth it.. .

surley you must be able to do both? I've not crawled under a Mustang but have seen plenty of other cars, why not have LT's into a high flow cat one per bank into an X/H pipe with a silencer at the back of the car (one for each bank), surly an exhaust shop should be able to make such a system. This way you get all the benifits of a full system and still remain legal.

I know if you removed the cats there should be a few more ponies, but realistically how many on a relativly stock motor? 5-10 crank not RW I should think, unless you are going for a really heavily modded motor after maximum bhp its not really worth the hassel IMO. Although in the UK we are quite lucky as Cats weren't a legal requirement until 1994, so neither of my current cars have cats and are still legal.

I've heard that the L/T headers can be a problem even if you run them into good cats. Why? Supposedly the L/T's place the cats a bit too far back in the exhaust where the gasses have had more time to cool off and the cats become a lot less useful.

Seriously...thats crazy. Because of the OBD2 computer in 96 and newer vehicles, MD just plugs their system into the car's computer. They never even look underneath! I have a Mac O/R Prochamber H pipe. I go through emissions for the first time this year. Im not worried at all.

This would be a beautiful thing if they adopt it in the NY Metro area. However, a few years ago, they "forced" all the station owners to purchase expensive dynos. Not sure how this will pan out. Nothing like having your rear O2 sensors shut off.
