How does the ac evaporator come out of the dash unit??? lol

I got a complete dash unit from my friend's stang and I want to take the evaporator from it. How does it come out? It's outside of the car so it should be easy. Thanks! Sean

If you look on the heater box there are two ridges close together approx where the evaporator would be. This is a cut line. You must cut the heater box open to remove the evaporator.

You serious? Damn Ford engineers....

Well then is there anyway of cleaning out the inside of an evaporator? I took my lines off about 2 years ago and left the open lines exposed and I see a bunch of dust/dirt in the opening. Could I spray in some simple green, hook up a waterhose to one line and backflush it, n switch back and forth till the water runs clear, etc. and then let it dry for a week? I would just be worried about any remaining water hiding in the evaporator and then getting in the ac system.

I'm sure someone had thought of a way to do this safely.....

Flame me all you want for a/c but driving in sweaty, long pants in 100 degree weather ain't fun plus I could care less about the extra weight of it.

I had the same problem when I had my dash apart, I decided to leave the damn thing in there and simply cut the extruding metal tubes off inside the box with a dremel and sealed the box with a piece of ABS plastic. Of course I'm deleting the A/C, and you want it to work, so don't do what I did! If you wish to clean it out, I would say your method will work, but I might suggest rinsing it out with acetone when you're done to make sure all the water is out (acetone will evaporate...fast!)

just use common sense, there will never be a better time to cut open that box and fix it once the right way, unless of course you enjoy taking the dash out of a fox more than once.....

also consider replacing the heater core while you are there...

good idea with the acetone i might try that n see how that turns out n go from there.
I changed the heater core when i got the car like 4 years ago, only had to since i cracked the joint when i was pulling off the heater hose, did the core swap in a few hours once i got the a/c lines off. Wasn't a pain at all, dash stayed in the car, just pulled back the passenger side corner and got to it from there, also took out the glove box.
