I really want a supercharger to compliment my explorer setup, but im scared to do it because people say they blow head gaskets soo easily. Im sorta not even wanting to get one in a way, but ide love the power. Tell me what causes it,and if it can be avoided if done right, or what headgaskats/studs that i may need, thanks

lol, same here. You all suggested 10 pounds max for stock engine, so I figured i would play it safe at 8 and now im at 13.

Aren't you still working out some issues on the new motor?

It's not the superchargers fault of blown head gaskets and such. It's the bone head drivers who go nuts with the boost without the proper dyno tune (like me).

I kept telling people that all I wanted was 8-10 pounds of boost. That lasted a day and I went right to 12+ pounds.

It's all in the tune. You can run 20 psi on a bone stock engine if you tune it right (and I know people who've gone low 11's on a stock longblock using boost to get there).

Yea I agree it is the bonehead owners who blow them up. For every bone head there is a guy who knows what hes doing and keeps the engine together in one peice. Which guy are you, bonehead, or guy who knows what he is doing??

Shame on both of us!

Yeah get a proper tune and you will be straight. Get nuts and start running lotsa boost w/o it and you will blow HG's all day with detonation. That is with any power adder whether it be turbo, blown or n2o.

Better to blow a hg than something else

FWIW, I had an S-Trim on my fox. Also had h/c/i, and only 30# inj. Never did any tuning to it. Never blew a head gasket in a year and a half of driving it (and I was asking for it).
Next time I'm doing it right w/ big inj. and a chip right off the bat.

Don't fear the boost.

W/O a tune you are walking on eggshells or with nitro glycerin under the hood. It's just a huge risk to not get a tune right away but can be avoided as long as you are not like me and WOT it through the gears after you hear some detonation. As long as there is no detonation you are cool but when you hear the ping get ready to $$$ ching, ching! $$$
