How far do you drive to work?

Anyone else here have a job that requires them to travel all over?

I'm growing quite fond of travel time, give ya time to unwind after a long day and plenty of time to prepare and think about what needs to be done on the way to your destination. I usually spend an average of 2-6hrs per day in a car, and now am so use to it...not sure if I could find another job without it.

Although, getting stuck in traffic all the time is REALLY starting to get old. Coming home from the Seattle area at 4:30 in the afternoon SUCKS. If I'm in that area, heading back...I figure a good 4+ hours for a drive that normally takes 2.5hrs in smooth traffic.

how are you not late to work if you have a 1.5 hour possible delay? Do you just leave exceedingly early?

No, I just get there when I get there. I'm a Tech Rep for my company, traveling to dealers in 5 states. I don't have an office to go to, well...my office is in my home. But I make my own schedules and just let the dealers know roughly when to expect me. My boss is 3000mi back home in IA.

i live out in the s. end of graham to sumner about 25miles each, rt about 50, if i have to run errand prob 60mi day. i leave at 5am with moderate traffic and get to sumner about 5:40am, so it's still a 40 min drive.

Driving with the possibility of a huge delay would suck. I could not imagine having to leave 4 hours early to be to work on time. Just in case you hit traffic.

I agree.

There has been far too many mornings where I've had to drive into Seattle for meetings though too. It's normally a 2.5hr drive, and if the meeting started at 9am...you can bet that I was on the road at 4am to MAKE SURE that I avoided rush hour traffic at all costs. I would rather sit in the hotel lobby for 2+hrs early than 2hrs late.

And on the other hand, there have been way too many nights coming home from the same area where I leave at 3:30 and not make it back home till 7:30-8PM. It's not always the case, but with that area the traffic seems to be completely random. Some days you'll breeze right on through, and others it's a traffic jam.

Lots of travel

I spend all day driving to jobsites and back to the office. Anywhere from local sites to 100 miles away. I put 30k to 40k a year on. A couple years ago I got Satellite Radio. What a blessing! No more stupid talk on the radio stations, and every kind of music and other radio program I can think of.

I like all the time I get to myself in the car. I like the constant change of the roads, customers, scenery, and different challenges at each site. I would really hate to go back to working in an office all day. I get all the benefits of being outside, but I get a heater in the winter and a/c in the summer.

By the way, I've been thinking about Satellite radio for a while now. I really need to look into it. It's a pain in the ass trying to switch radio stations and finding new ones all the time.

120 miles rt everyday. from maple valley to bremerton. Traffic at 4 am isnt too bad though, and im off by noon usually

my commute takes all of maybe 5min. if I speed. I rarely take the GT (previous owner really racked up the miles, so now its gets to rest more) drive my old nissan p/u more, the good lunch at home the bad if there is ever a problem at work I always get the call.

About 90 miles about twice a week fom Sammamish to Tacoma. The other days are about 46 miles between Sammamish to Seattle and back.
