How fast would an 85 5.0 with a 4 barrel go?

Guy at work claims that he's had his mustang up to 167mph. Automatic, 3.08, 4 barrel carb(not sure about specs), and the tires were slightly larger than stock being the only things nonstock on it. He said he had it a 5500rpm which came out to be 167 mph. Personnally I think he's full of it but just wanted to check.

The efi 302s with more power can't do much over 140 stock, and thats a 5speed. Didn't they have 85mph speedos anyway?

If his tires were larger than stock then he speedo is incorrect.

An 84 would prob be in the 130-140MPH range tops

Pretty much what I thought. Just wanted to make sure. He was basing his speed of the calculated speed based upon his rpms. Was very doubtful about it since my motorcycle will only do about 170-175mph.
