How hard/expensive is it to cut down a 9 inch?

Well my roommate's 351 turns out to be a clevland and I've pretty much settled on a 302 for now and 347 later. Anyway the f150 has a 9 inch out back and I was thinking of cutting it down if it doesn't cost a ton to make it "bolt up"

I got some quotes recently on narrowing a nine inch.

About $200 to narrow the housing.

About $225 for a pair of new shorter axles with bearings installed on them. This is from Currie's web site. I'm not sure about shipping, I haven't checked that.

does the narrowing typically include relocating where the leaf springs go?
I didn't ask for them to quote moving the brackets along with narrowing. I plan on sandblasting the housing clean, then moving the brackets to where I need them myself. I figure it will be something I can do. And since they will be moving the flanges last, I'm not too worried about welding on the housing. I figure that if I tweak it a little during my welding, they will have to correct it during their part.

I wouldn't think a shop would charge much additional if you told them where to put everything and they were narrowing the housing and moving brackets at the same time.
