I dont do that much stuff to my car, but I'm no idiot. I have lots of tools. For someone who has never worked on an engine before, how hard is it to install cams or heads for that matter?

Cams are a great mod for the price if I can install them myself...

i installed my cams but the motor was out of the car.. its not to hard as long as you line every thing up .....

personal i think it would be a pain to do with the motor in the car but it has been done

i think it can be done with the valve covers removed and an anderson cam tool

personal i would just get a good shop to do it because if you put them in wrong your looking at piston to valve contact and that equals bent valves

but cams can give you a nice boost in hp once there in and tuned

tune is a must with new cams

Cams are not a drop in item and go.

A person on a few other boards has been wondering on actual clearances of PTV with aftermarket cams. He has found some very startling things. Any aftermarket cam with more than 225 duration on the intake side and installed tighter than 115 intake centerline will put the valves into the pistons.

There is quite a few( over 10 ) VT Stg 2 N/A cammed cars now that have confirmed PTV damage. There is 3 known Hi-Tech Stg 2 N/A cammed cars with PTV damage. All cams were drop in and go.

If you don't take the time to install the cams properly which means degreeing them in and checking clearances, how lucky do you feel?

It's not for the faint of heart. I went with a mild cam just to avoid any issues because I was doing the work myself. I was afforded the luxury of having an extra vehicle in case of problems. Never would have attempted it if this were my only ride. That said it isn't too hard to do and I didn't degree them. I have my own theories about early model 4.6's as opposed to later one as far as PTV goes but if you take your time you can get it done in a day or two. Best to have a helper.

I put in some new comp cams and I cant get the damn thing to fire. I even had a shop do it. It cranks and cranks but wont fire. . . .
It took mine a bit to fire off also but it was just the lack of fuel in the rails.

If the timing is off though it wouldn't fire up. I'd have them check to make sure they didn't rotate a cam 180 degress.
