How high can u safely rev a stock shortblock with a h/c/i?

Yeah i used to be sure that my limiter was at 6,250rpm because it would just stop revving and sit there, turns out that was valve float on my old worn out valve springs. Now my car revvs easily past 6,250rpm i was definitly wrong.

I didn't put the cam in like I was supposed to.

My Dad has been driving the car to work everyday for the past few days and he said he shifts at about 6500. I can't justify my answer, I'm just going by the SOTP.

Jake, if you're ever bored and want to pull the front cover, I'd retard your cam another 2* (or 4* if your feeling good about yourself). You are not nearly as heavy as the typical SN95.

Hmmmmmmmm...

I forgot if the Rollmaster goes in 2* or 4*...

Maybe I'll see what Ed says about it, because the car has a TON of low end, plus I plan on some 4.10s within the next few years.

I have the TM40 and before my extender it would hit the limiter at 6250. Wierd that Ford would have two different rev limits for the same engine.

Sorry if I'm behind the times here...but why do some of the Sn95's have the TM40 limiter and some don't? When they know that the stock components don't do much past 6k?

ALL T4MO EEC's HAVE A 7000RPM LIMITER, REPEAT... ALL T4MO EEC's HAVE A 7000RPM LIMITER. Anyone with a tweecer or eec tuner can confirm this via the PIP. I have made dyno pulls OVER 6300rpms, TMC has been shifting his car above 6250 for a long time, etc... WHY? I have no clue, but I assure you it's not 6250rpms in the T4MO.

I suspect that Ford didn't bother with the limiter because there's no way in hell a stock GT is going to get anywhere near the limits of the shortblock ... You'd have to wait another couple of minutes after hitting 5500 before you'd see 6000, much less 6250+ .

Ain't that the truth.

One time when I was about 16 I wanted to rev the car to 6k just for fun. It got up to about 5100 and just died. I had that thing floored for (almost seriously) 5 seconds before it got up to 6000.

And who says the stock valve springs will float before 6000 . I bet that as the engine gets older, the valve springs may become a rev-limiter . Depends on how tight the clearance is with the pistons, it may end up a one-time rev-limiter .

whell, since my tranny is all messed up i regularlly hit 7,000. no problem except it makes a crackling noise, which cant be good, but she takes it. oh whell thats why i bought trickflow valve springs.
