How is this intake manifold?

I bought a 97 gt and it has this intake manifold on it.

I was just wondering if anyone else had it or knows if it is worth the money. I bought the car with it on it and am thinking of doing a PI swap and would have to get rid of this. I thought it was like the Bullit for the 99-04s but im not sure what the performance aspects of it is.

If you went with that manifold the ports would not match with PI heads, but you can have your NPI heads ported and put some decent cams on them and make way more power than a stock PI headed car. So if you plan on PI heads or staying N/A I would not get that intake, but if you are going to supercharge your car and want to port the stock heads then it's not a bad peice, pricey but not bad.

Its a 1800 dollar intake kit :) Get your stock heads ported and get a valve job done to them. And pick up a set of Comp NPI cams. If you have money to spend then buy the matching SVO/FRPP 2V heads(best 2V heads)

that add is very mis-leading as that part # and price are just for the intake and does not include the install kit which run between $335.00 & $520.00 depending on year. it is a very good intake, I had one on my car for many years before switching to the Reichard intake. FYI, the "Bullitt" intake was modeled after that Frpp intake.
 
well those heads don't pop up used that often so your gonna have to go new. When i was looking around the cheapest place I found was www.johnbleakleyford.com in the parts dept..ask for wayne. Randy could probably match their price also. Those heads when ported flow some serious #'s for 2V's...and the valve location is superior to NPI/PI heads. Talk to www.steenracing.com or Jim at Renegade racing for a good port job.
 
Take a quick trip over to www.tccoa.com. Plenty of MN12 T-Bird/Cougar guys over there are making good use out of the Non-PI castings that most Mustangers give away for next to nothing. Nearly all of them swear by the porting done by Renagade Racing in Michigan. These were a set done for Johnny Langton over at the tccoa. He went for the whole shooting match with these ones with full portwork with throat enlargement (not just a CNC job),milling of the head surface to insure a clean face,comp valve job,high-lift springs,titanium retainers/locks,teardown/cleanup. These particular heads flowed The flow over 200cfm at .500" lift,and 220ish cfm at .600" lift on the intake and just over 190cfm on the exhaust side. That beind said, they ran about $1,500, but you get what you pay for.

Another member 96 GoldBird also had a set done there that weren't quite as heavily worked and his turned out as follows....

Had one of my heads not be screwed when I bought my car, this is probably the route I would have chose. But as it sits, I got a set of PI castings at a fabulous deal and couldn't pass them up. I have no doubt though, that a properly ported set of NPI heads would performe every bit as well as my ported PI heads. As it sits, your intake is a perfect match to the Non-PI castings, so this is just one more alternative for you to take, over the FRPP castings. :)

Now say i wanted to eventually go s/c with this application. Do you think my compression would be too high with like a procharger P-1SC at like 8psi or lower. I would like to do: intake that i have p&p NPI heads and some kind of cams, which is the question because of the sc and maybe i should consider a set of blower cams. What do you guys think. I want like 350rwhp or so.

lol......With that intake, PnP non-PI heads affixed with a set of PI cams and a Procharger running 8psi, you can count on seeing closer to the 420-430rwhp range....not 350rwhp.
 
well thats great news I wasnt really sure what kind of power i would be making. But in that case do you think it would be better to do the heads cams first or a sc first. I am guessing the heads and cams first? But is the procharger with intercooler kit good and who has good prices and customer service with these kits. Or is there another manufacturer for a centrifugal sc.
 
I'd do it all at once, but that's just me. The nice thing about your set up, is that you get to keep the stock compression along with the high flow heads, intake and PI cams (assuming you go with the heads I suggested above) and you'll make great power and retain equally great drivability until you're ready to go with the blower.

The Procharger is as good as any other Centrifugal out there. Some people complain about leaky seal issues, but this usually happens to a very small percentage of units and it’s usually due to overfilling the blower itself. I particularly like them at this power level, because of the standard intercooling and fast spooling 4.10 internal step up ratio. This means that you'll make great torque down low, where normal centrifugals need higher RPM in order to see it, and still pull hard up top, where a Positive Displacement blower tends to mellow out. Not only this, but the price is certainly right considering the level of performance a kit like this will reward you with.

The other big two centrifugals are the Paxton, or the Vortech units. Both blowers at this power level will make decent power as well, but neither come with standard intercooling. Both can be fitted with an aftercooler, but this adds to the cost. There are other small differences between the blowers that you may, or may not be aware of. The P1SC Procharger that you're looking at is a self contained unit, that doesn't require tapping the oil pan, as where either the equivalent Paxton Novi 1000 and 2000 or the Vortech S and T-Trim does. It's not really a big issue to tell the truth, but the differences should be noted regardless.
