Ok, well I was talking with my father earlier today and he was telling me that i have too many miles right now to be putting a supercharger on my car. I was wanting to put a procharger p1sc with a 3 core intercooler on it, etc...My car is a 2001 GT with 69,700 miles on it. I regularly do the oil change every 5k miles with royal purple...If i put my supercharger on around 75,000 miles, realistically how long do you think my motor will last??? My dad thinks it isn't smart, but what is ya'lls opinions???

I think that as long as you keep your car in good mechanical condition, ie...changing oil, filters, plugs..., it should last a long time. Given you aren't pushing a ton of boost thru it with a *****ty tune. Actual mileage would depend on how hard you drive it.

I was reading an article in MM&FF at the end where people send in pics of thier cars, and a guy had a 99 cobra with 165k miles on it and 135k of those were with a vortech blower Take care of it, get a good tune, stay off the limiter and it will last

I learned something intersting a few years after I moved out on my own:

DAD IS ALWAYS RIGHT

Just take his advice you will be glad you did later.

I seriously doubt it is about miles also, he probably does not want you to have a s/c for reasons known only to him. Listen to him.

your dad is wrong because he's thinking old school. he's used to engines being near death at 100,000 miles. that's simply not the case anymore. a well maintaned engine like the 4.6L 2V will last 200,000 to 300,000 miles. if the car is tuned properly and the power limits of the stock internals aren't exceeded, you will have no problem.

Your car should be able to easily handle it and run for you for years to come. With that said, if dad is willing to help you buy a Mach 1 take him up on it.

So what in gods name are you still farting around with the idea of installing a blower on your GT for. The Mach 1 is a much nicer car and will give you a decent jump in horsepower to boot.

it all comes down to payments.. if you want to pay more for the mach go that route.. if you want to mod the GT and keep a lower/no payment stay that route and do the Procharger.. at 8-9 psi your car will make 360+rwhp and stomp a stock Mach. motorwise it could live 100K plus with a blower if you don't rev past 5800rpms and keep up with maintainance. I was making 430 pushing 16lbs of boost through my car for 10K+miles and the motor still ran perfect when I took it out for a forged setup. key to keeping it together was keeping the shift RPM lower so as not to put big heat and pressure into the chamber high up and bend rods/crack piston landings.

Might as well go all the way and buy the terminator. Saves you another purchase later.

if youre gonna go that route, spend a few more grand and get a 03/04 cobra, its already SC'd and will be cheaper in the end, and its a far better platform to start out on, even if you wont be modding it for a long time.

otherwise dont listen to dad. 69K is NOTHING on modular. ****ing new york cabbies putting 500k+ on crown vics all the time.

if your compression is good, boost away. i have 90K and if i could afford a SC setup the last thing on my mind would be if it will hold up. maybe if i had 150k then the thought would come up, id check compression and if that was good it slap the summabitch on. and as always, the tune can always make or break you, so get it tuned right if youre going to a dyno afterwards, otherwise the mail-orders that usually come with the kits are so far across the safe side of things (minimal timing, extra fuel to make sure its safe) youll be good to go.
