How long will it take me to remove my 8.8 rear end?

it's 9.22 here in bama. I'm gonna get dressed (I'm still sleepy from working last night) question here is how long will it take me to remove my 8.8 rearend from my parts car?........gonna see how fast I can get it out safely! Drive shaft is already removed........the rest is all bolted up still!

Well, having the driveshaft unbolted aready saves you a lot of time. All that you really gotta do is unbolt the control arms from the axle and remove the brake lines. It really depends on how stubborn the bolts want to be. Air tools would help greatly. My control arm bolts were the biggest PITA to break loose when I changed my arms. I would budget like 2 hours and that includes some margin for problems and such.

first thing I did was WD-40 all the bolts there were exposed, Then I removed the rear sway bar...both sides..Then i removed quads, rear shocks at the tops, the uppers top two bolts, then loosed the lower's two bolts. (Those were stuborn). Removed the one 13mm brake line bolt, then disconnected the E Brake lines at the intersection under the E brake handle. A little trick I use to get the spread thingy's (e brake cables)thru their holes is a boxed end 1/2" wrench then pull the e brake line thru.! Everythings on the ground now. Not to bad I didnt thing, not for as tired as I am!

Dude my rusty pos from Pa's rear wasnt even that rusted when i took it out to sell it 2 years ago. Took me 35 minutes to tale mine out with an electric impact gun. That includes jacking the car up and reomoving the driveshaft.

am i mistaken or does taking the driveshaft only take like 5 mins???

in theory it should only take that long. But those damn 12 pt bolts like to strip easily and can be a bitch to break loose

best way to break them is about a 10" entension and a breaker bar. I do the breaking then put the impact on them. Some times I have to use a swivel, but try not to. I have a cracked tooth from one coming off one time!

Northern & rusty is definitely worse. My car came from Tennessee, and it was full of mud. But there was no rust to be found. All the DRIED dirt kept it from rusting. I still have yet to take out the pass. side plastic inner fender, but I think I've got most of it out lol. You can't wash off rust with a garden hose!!! Also, my friggin A4LD leaks atf, so my control arm bolts will be pre-soaked.

this is old but i removed my 2.73 8.8 today, words CANNOT describe how easy it was. me and some friends did it today in auto class, we had a lift and impacts.... all the good stuff, made the whole process very straightforward.

In about 3 to 3.5 hours we...
removed old rear
moved wheel cyl and brake lines to new rear
got new rear bolted up

and tomorrow all we have to do is put the drum brakes on the new rear and add fluid and bleed brakes etc...

it was much easier than i thought.....

cool to know someone has a school with autoclass still. Our little hole in the wall school didnt have one. We did have shop but it was wood working and welding. Of course I dont remember much that was 20 plus years ago! lol
