Without getting into semantics about precats vs cats, etc etc, you should have 2 per side (4 total).

Good luck.

yeah i was thinking the same thing...tell him 4 total and someone $hits the bed crying that 2 are precats

btw...unless you get a great deal on a stocker from somewhere...you are smog legal w/ just 2 cats . so if you get a hi-flow from any of the numerous exhaust makers...your fine

There should 4 (2 per side) as stated above. I think it will be expensive to buy a stock replacement from the dealer, probably more than a new catted H-pipe which will only have 2 cats (1 per side). Check with your performance shops, alot of them have extras around from previous customers who now have "race only" cars. There was a time when you could rent them for $50.00 for emissions.

I just thinking of putting the heat shields on my h-pipe. I think it will pass the sniffer without the cats.

So if I get 2 Highflow cats............i'll be ok

I know on our 4.8L in our work truck we put 2 universal cats (good up to 5.9L) and we're fine

I was just gunna run 2 cats, after my full length headers, into 2 mufflers, and out to the tips...........is this ok?

Thanks for all the posts guys

That would be okay from for a tail-pipe only test. Many locations here in the States now also check for the number of cats.

The pre-cats are there to heat up quickly during start-up. According to some studies, in big cities the emissions from the first 5 mins accounts for ~30%+ of the emissions from cars. So, there is a requirement that cars pollute only "x amount" in the first "y minutes" from a *cold* start.

Of course, they don't do cold start testing at smog stations. So, by checking the number of cats and the tail-pipe emissions, they can be "pretty sure" that the car is in spec.

So, to summarize again, two cats will pass tail-pipe tests, but will fail some visual tests. Check your local smog laws.

ya, up in Ontario we only have the tail pipe tests
And the car is supposed to be at operating temp, when it goes in, so it's nice and hot

So I think i'll do this, being it has true dual exhaust, no H-pipe
I think I may put a h-pipe in though, just to equalize the pressure

Anyone know how Flowmasters sound on a 5.0L stang with long tube headers, and an H-pipe

Thanks
Cameron

I assume "different" means louder?I understand those stock 4 cats keep things quieter than the after market high flow 2 cat systems.

lol Euphoric.

Duro, I ran that setup for a few years and loved it. I always run 3-chamber delta flows and cats which isn't the meanest sounding combo.

and loved the sound

I want that whole "don't F^&K with me" sound

I had magnaflows on my car for about 3 weeks and it just wasn't for me (they sound hot on my neighbors 03 Cobra though). They might be a bit too mellow for what you're looking for.
