How many miles are the 00+ stangs good for......(Life Span wise)

I know it's a very general and almost impossible question to answer......but I was just curious.

Say all the scheduled maintenance is kept up......the car is not driven very hard only a little fun had here or there.....and it's never ran at a track.

150k to 200k miles? Maybe less?

Also, would these miles be trouble free or would you expect a few major things to need replacing along the way?

I know I'm being very general here......but I'm just trying to get a basic idea of the overall long term quality of my car. My 02' GT has 32.9k miles on it right now but I fully plan on driving it until it basically falls apart....and I'm just wondering about when that might be.

SOHC engine go for a LONG time. They are really solid engines, just look at all the taxi cabs and cop cars running around. Overall they are very solid cars, just keep up with fluid changes and it'll be fine for well over a 100,000 miles

your kidding, drive it til it falls apart?? we're mustang people here, we fix it when it breaks, or replace it with our next Stang project

77k no issues. AC stuff low pressure switch needed replacing. Hmm, thats almost it.

I'm hoping mine holds up with no issues until ATLEAST 100k. I am hard on mine as well. I think I'll need a clutch maybe soon.

88K miles and no problems at all. i keep regular maintenance every 3 months though... oilchange/fuel filter change/coolant flush... etc..

My 02 has 39 thou with no probs cept for a pcv valve leak. A 10cent clamp fixed that. Im gona drive mine till i get 80 on it then It going into the shop for some work, in the form of a new dohc engine

mmm my 02 gt is runnin like a horse.... just hit 18k

on that note when would you say an engine needs a rebuild? because while i plan on having this car for a LONG time it will just be a project car in the next several years(ive got plans for a blower on this one and if i do that im sure ill keep it for quite a while)

and is an engine rebuild as good as a new engine...almost or not, because if not when the time comes cobra engine/new tranny here i come :joker:

There are taxis in newyork city with modular motors with over 200K on them

You'll notice a power difference at around 125-150K, but the block will last 200,000K. The accesories will burn out before the block will; alternator, water pump, and maybe the A/C. At that time, built 4.6 blocks will be a lot cheaper than now .

Are you kidding me man 200K miles.......... my friend is a dispatch at Concord car service here in NYC and the newes car has more then 200K........ most of them have around 400K and one of them he told me has over 800K on it I.... I dont' know about rebuilding but they keep their cars clean..... they have their own shop and the cars get tunne ups regularly

I will ask him to take some pics of the cars with most milage there and some info if they have any rebuilds and when it was done...

Yep, I agree. Also, the fuel pump ($$$) won't outlast the piston rings and bearings. And in certain parts of the country , the engine (with reg. maintenance) will outlast the body.

I have 85k and have only had issues with the cooling fan (still stays on high all the time), had to replace the water pump because the main seal was leaking, starter, upper intake replaced under warranty from leak behind alternator, and now O2 sensors. I think the biggest problem people do is not take care of the little problems and let them snowball. For instance, I drove around with the coolant return line leak (behind the alternator) for 2 months. It kept spraying small amounts of coolant everywhere and would leak into the spark plug wells causing misfires. The coolant in the wells destroyed/boiled a plug wire, so that became another $100 to throw into the repair pot. I drive the hell out of my car though, so I guess the accelerated wear is to be expected...

I think I still have good ring seals because I never burn any oil (10w30 Pennzoil). After 3000 miles, the oil level on the dipstick is right where it was after the oil change.

Oh, and I warped the stock front brakes - hence Baer.

80k miles on mine, and the only thing I've had to change was the IAC valve. The car runs BETTER than when it was new! Well actually I had to also change out 2 coil packs, but that was my fault when I let water get in there when cleaning the engine.

I was in a cab about a month ago and it had 269k mile on its 4.6 but it did have a spun bearing but still driving...

There are many limosine companies that own the 2000-2002 towncars with the 4.6 engine in them that have 460,000 to 490,000 miles on them. And these cars have the original engine and transmissions in them. The limo drivers beat the hell out of them and these cars still run. The electrical accessories get burned out first. The engines and transmissions on these cars are still good.

I have 75k on my '00 and have never had a problem with anything. I drive the crap out of it and hope to keep for another 75k, then its rebuild time.

If you want to keep your 'stang a long time, like I do - get subframe connectors. Best preventative item for chassis fatigue, which I would imagine is a lot more expensive to fix than dropping in a new engine.

I have almost 60k on mine and it looks/drives like new; I hope to keep it doing that for many more tens of thousands of miles. Thanks to our new baby daughter, I might have to (e.g. there is no '03-'04 Cobra in the budget!)
