The question shouldn't be do I have one but how many I have or how many have I gone through.

Lol, so true. I actually have 4 and I'm about to pick up a 5th for a spare.
One in my 68, one in my 87, one in the other 87 (we are about to tear the car apart and stick it into my GF's 90 GT), and one sitting under my carport waiting for my 86. Someone gave it to me! I also have an AOD under the carport, which will be joined by the AOD in my GF's car soon, and a 4 banger AOD in a parts car. And I have a 3 speed toploader laying around somewhere. Geez, I've got too many trannies.

BTW Fostang, how many HAVE you gone through, or how many do own/have owned?

I've got one, it's the Borg Warner "World Class" and the last couple of weeks it's been popping out of 2nd gear. Does this mean I'm going to need a new one soon?????

If I switch over to a tremec, which one should I go with? Also what other parts will need to be changed???? SORRY TO HIJACK!

You'll probably be due for a rebuild...

T5's are relatively easy to rebuild, as long as you have access to a press and a dial indicator. Just rebuilt mine a couple weeks ago.

T5 diagnosis

BTW Hanlon has a GREAT 2 hour video on rebuilding them. Good folks to deal with. :nice:

I still have my Toploader... even though with slightly worse gas mileage, it's probably cheaper than converting and replacing T5 when it gets broken!
Unless you convert to a Richmond or TKO, then you'll probably not break it and need the rebuild.

I spent some extra money and got a Tremec 3550. It wasn't as hard a swap for me to do since the transmission tunnel on my 73 is pretty large. The tremec is said to be a much stronger tranny than the T5.

This is pretty much what I would like to do when my gives up the ghost (might be soon). On a 66 is it a difficult swap, if you're already running a 5 speed???? What "extra" parts are required? How much labor should I be expecting?

ive got a turbo 400 in mine an i was wondering if a t5 would be better than a turbo 400 im around 420hp 460ibs ft of torque is that to much for a t5 to handle or not? i dont know much about the tranny's bein as im only 16 but so far the turbo 400 has been good
