How much coolant do I add!???

i finally got my new thermo in there, damn that lower bolt was a bitc*!!!! it was easy getting it out but putting back is another thing, but it sure does feel good knowing I did it instead of a jiffy lube!!!

ok heres my question, im going to use some radiator cleaner and flush my radiator out, after that when im ready to add my new coolant how much coolant/water do I put back in the radiator (ive heard a gallon of each but want to double check w/ yall first)

also theres some coolant still in my overflow after ive drained my radiator is that normal, it looks clean so do i need to worry about draining that as well, im thinking yeah just to make sure while i have everything else undone....

any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

i would get rid of the stuff in the overflow, and just start from scratch, the total system is going to take about a gallon.......go for a 50/50 mix........by a gallon of anti freeze and a gallon of distilled water from wal mart or a grocery store, start by adding 1/2 of your anti freeze, then 1/2 of your gallon of distilled water. Start the car and let it run till the stat open's up, this will bleed the air out of the system and also lower your radiator level, once the level start's going down, just start going back and forth a bit between anti freeze and distilled water, till you are set about a 1/2" below the neck..............good to go then, put your cap back on and go play..........hotwheels of turborides

im not sure if it was explicitly said but i would properly burp the system. when you start it up for the first time, i like to have the driver's side jacked up or parked on a hill (so the rad neck is as high as it can be). i leave the cap off so air can purge. let it run to operating temp or until it seems to stop purging air. be careful of hot coolant and all that stuff.

Turn the heater on!!!!!!!!THats the rule of thump for coolant replacement.My Mustang Budds and me almost came to blows one day over this topic!!!!!!!!!Coolant is always running through the heater core.When you slide the switch to the RED it opens damper door up in dash to HEAT side right???And the fan kicks on to blow air through heater core thus warming air into vents????And when ac or Blue side is opened the heater cores access to vents is closed off.So turning heat on like every manual in the known world says to do is it right?????????

When installing a tstat I usually drill a small hole in the flange at the top, to create a "blurp" hole (if it does not already have one, some do). It helps a lot when filling/flushing coolant.
